Significantly better than previous bottles tasted, this charmingly rich, generous and seamless chardonnay has a delicate chalky bouquet of white flowers, lemon rind, grapefruit and melon backed by suggestions of wheatmeal and minerals. It delivers concentration and a plump, fatness on the palate, but retains length, shape and focus. A reserved presence of white peach, grapefruit, melon and pear is backed by suggestions of tangerine, finely knit with savoury oak and finished by a gentle lime juice acidity. Long, waxy and briny, it delivers a delightfully persistent core of fruit.
Evolved, waxy, floral aromas of peach, nectarine and honeysuckle are backed by hints of barley sugar, lemon pith and buttery, vanilla oak. Smooth, supple and elegant, its palate begins with ripe melon, mango and stonefruit flavours and genuine creamy smoothness, but becomes quite short and candied. Drink soon.
An exercise and commitment to a style and philosophy, slowing revealing its layers of fruit. Spicy, faintly meaty aromas of honeysuckle, grilled nuts, wheatmeal and ginger with custard, peach-like fruit are backed by fresh matchstick oak with hints of cloves and cinnamon. Long and concentrated, its assertively oaked presence of melon, grapefruit and ginger becomes more elegant and waxy towards its long, vibrant and savoury finish.
Long, complex and assertive, with a fine texture and a lingering core of fruit. Its delicate, waxy and floral bouquet of melon and grapefruit reveals faintly creamy, buttery undertones and a hint of wet slate. Deeply flavoured, long and savoury, it unfolds a deep, unctuous presence of fruit and marl-like minerality, finishing fractionally oily, but with a refreshing, briny note.
Richly flavoured but broad and excessively evolved, it reveals an assertively oaked, creamy, vanilla and buttery bouquet of peaches and cream backed by nuances of smoked bacon and custard. ItÕs smooth and soft, rather luscious and old-fashioned, with a forward and buttery palate that finishes without much length or freshness.
Rather evolved and waxy, rich and creamy, heavily worked and lacking great freshness and tightness.
Heady scents of white and yellow flowers; chalky, mineral and savoury; taut finish.
Waxy scents of dried flowers, grapefruit, melon and custard; round and creamy, with luscious peach, pear and apple and a briny, marly finish.
A wild, musky, brassy fistful of viognier which will please the purist for its cleanness and precision, but perhaps not the traditional drinker of viognier unused to associating these qualities with this grape. Scented with spicy apricot and orange blossom, steeped in spirity, juicy fruit, finishing warm and savoury, it’s punchy but perhaps a little soulless.
