Elegant and full-flavoured, this intense, stylish and minty young cabernet is scented with violets, cassis, cedar/chocolate oak and nuances of dried herbs. ItÕs long and measured, with a sumptuous, if slightly meaty core of cassis, mulberries and blackberries tightly knit with fresh oak, underpinned by fine, crunchy tannins and finishing surprisingly savoury, with a lingering suggestion of spearmint. Really stylish, with excellent drive, balance and structure.

    St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A rich, firm and profoundly structured cabernet whose sweet, violet-like bouquet of cassis, fresh cedar/vanilla oak and dried herbs reveals assertive notes of mint and menthol. Densely packed with flavours of small black and blue berries tightly knit with cedar/vanilla/chocolatey oak, itÕs long and firm, finely crafted around a gentle spine of powdery tannins. While itÕs genuinely supple, smooth and elegant, itÕs a little too minty for an even higher rating.

    St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sumptuous, layered and very elegant, this deeply flavoured and perfectly ripened cabernet has lost the youthfully herbal and greenish notes of its youth to express classic cabernet nuances of cassis dark plums, mulberries and cigarbox, with cedary and vanilla undertones. ItÕs supported by a firm, but ultra-fine spine of drying tannins and extends with excellent length but remains just too minty for an even higher rating.

    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Shapely, finely balanced and long living, itÕs scented with a lightly herbal fragrance of cassis, violets, red berries, cedar oak and mulberries backed by nuances of menthol and spearmint. ItÕs complete, structured and very orderly, with a layered depth of ripe fruit, fresh fine-grained oak and firmish, dusty tannins, finishing with strength and length. Wrapped with a fresh acidity, itÕs superbly supple and elegant but just marginally too minty for a higher rating.

An aristocratic long-term cabernet of genuine regionally and style.
