A fine, very reserved, but profoundly flavoured chardonnay that should evolve well. ItÕs presently quite estery, spicy and very fragrant, with juicy aromas of peach and melon backed by notes of fig, quince and restrained vanilla oak. Long, lean and tightly focused, its tightly focused palate of peach, lemon sherbet and melon-like knits with fine-grained nutty vanilla oak and a lingering spiciness before finishing long, taut and briny.
Long, tightly focused and already very complex, with a waxy, creamy bouquet of grapefruit, melon and fresh vanilla oak backed by nuances of ginger and butterscotch. Underpinned by waxy and nutty complexity, its evenly ripened, juicy presence of melon and grapefruit are deftly knit with creamy malolactic influences, a savoury minerality and suggestions of smoked meats. It finishes with brightness, tightness and a lingering core of pristine fruit.
Measured, mineral and tightly balanced, with a creamy, nutty bouquet of peachy, citrusy fruit lifted by scents of white and yellow flowers and backed by suggestions of ginger and nutmeg. ItÕs luscious and mouthfilling, tightly knit with fresh vanilla oak but tightly focused and elegant, extending over a fine chalkiness towards a long, briny finish of persistent grapefruit, peach and melon flavours and a brittle acidity.
Very stylish and complete, this round and measured chardonnay marries grapefruit, lemon, melon and peach flavours with smoky vanilla/matchstick oak and a fine chalkiness. Backed by creamy, mealy yeast-derived complexity and a hint of waxiness, it finishes quite savoury with a fresh briny edge.
A very stylish, complete and expressive chardonnay that very capably reflects its vineyard of origin. Tasted at nine years of age, it’s still vivacious and fruit-driven, with bouquet of grapefruit, lemon, ginger, green apple skin and oyster shell lifted by scents of yellow flowers and a developing smoky toastiness. A sumptuous, unctuous core of fruit tightly knit with fresh new oak and creamy yeast-derived elements drives long and penetrative down a crunchy mineral spine, finishing savoury and briny with remarkable freshness and youth. An excellent wine from a very warm season.
A classical, complete and seamless chardonnay that artfully combines elegance and power. Creamy scents of grapefruit, lemon rind and melon deftly knit with fresh vanilla oak overlie suggestions of smoked meats, a whiff of custard and a faint chalkiness. Built around a profound core of fruit that soaks up its tight-grained oak, it moves along a slatey undercarriage towards a mineral finish of brittle acidity, remarkable length and impact.
Bright scents of grapefruit, yellow peach, smoked meats and oyster shell with undertones of cinnamon, ginger and lime precede a palate with genuine concentration of fruit that extends down what commences as a mineral undercarriage but becomes dramatically bitter and steely right across the back of the palate. Yes, there are at this moment some attractive flavours and attributes, but my experience with wines of this nature suggests a very short drinking window before the steely attenuation of fruit and the already excessive grippy bitterness overtake all aspects of quality. An unusual vintage with which to increase the retail price by 33%.
