    Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 1999
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Toasty, waxy, honeyed aromas of figs, cumquat and butterscotch, with underlying bright honeydew melon and citrus fruits and a hint of lime. High-toned acids and a long, chalky palate deliver a steely mouthfeel of lemon-lime fruit and spicy, toasty oak, finishing tight and savoury. Very controlled, and does build richness on the palate.

Clinically perfect chardonnay, perhaps lacking a little soul. Its mineral fragrance suggests dried flowers, lemon blossom and dusty, spicy cloves, with nutmeg and melon fruit. Elegant, supple and seamless, its juicy, vibrant palate of pineapple, grapefruit and mango perfectly integrates with nutty vanilla oak and finishes with refreshing citrusy acids.

A very elegant, restrained, finely structured and stylish chardonnay with excellent complexity and focus. Its dusty bouquet of peaches, nectarines, grilled nuts and dried flowers is backed by smoky, matchstick-like elements. Smooth and seamless, its pristine expression of peach, lemon and melon flavour knits tightly with assertive vanilla oak before finishing very long and savoury, with taut, mineral acids. Chalky and finely structured, with complex nutty, mealy undertones.

Delicate floral and musky aromas of honeycomb, sweetcorn and lemon blossom are backed by slightly meaty undertones of bacon and grilled nuts with minerally and creamy lees-derived influences. Generous, round and oily, its savoury and mealy expression of melon and peach-like fruit, sweet vanilla oak and lightly funky undertones finishes with slightly metallic acids, revealing a green-edged thread that lies beneath the wine.

Fine and elegant, this supple and sappy chardonnay is all about delicacy, balance and suppleness. Its floral fragrance of restrained melon and citrus fruit reveals mealy, almost cheesy undertones, with undertones of smoky, minerally lees-derived complexity. Smooth and savoury, it’s long and fine-grained, with an intense sweet spot of lime, lemon and cumquat flavour right in the middle of its lingering palate.

    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Pristine aromas of tangerine, melon and grapefruit overlie slightly dusty, nutty, waxy and mineral nuances, with subliminal suggestions of wheatmeal and vanilla. Round and smooth, its juicy core of citrus and melon flavour is neatly trimmed by an underlying powdery minerality and a tangy, lemony acidity. Long, austere and shapely, finishing taut and stylish, it finishes with lingering a lemon sherbet-like aspect. Very classy, and made without a single barrel of new oak.

Supremely fine-grained and elegant, this sumptuously flavoured and deeply layered chardonnay exudes poise and refinement. Delicate and complex, it??s scented with citrus blossom, white peach, nectarine, melon and grapefruit, with undertones of bacon and smoky oak. Its deep core of explosively intense fruit permeates the entire length of its long, fluffy and seamless palate, finishing with great persistence and balance.

    Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2006
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

Ripe, juicy and very Australian in its fruit presentation, with intense if slightly candied flavours of lime juice, white peach and grapefruit backed by smoky oak, meaty leesy notes and earthy, mineral undertones. Long and complete, underpinned by a chalky, slatey texture, its palate builds steadily towards an austere but fresh and vibrant finish.

Stylish, taut and trim. Backed by subtle floral aromas, ginger and cloves, its bouquet of Puligny-like delicacy reveals a fresh presence of stonefruit, citrus and lemon. It??s long and creamy, with a supple texture but a delightfully intense core of fruit extending well down the palate, finishing very tight, clean and focused, if perhaps with some hard and edgy youthful acidity.

    Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2008
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Elegant and spotless, but very withdrawn for a wine of its age, almost dumbed down needing more emphasis and intensity. Delicate aromas of peach, white flowers and assertive vanilla oak overlie nuances of grapefruit and pineapple, with a hint of underlying earthiness and smokiness. Smooth and elegant, it??s long and supple, with a very restrained core of pure peach and grapefruit flavour over a fine, dusty undercarriage, ultimately finishing with oak-derived influences of vanilla and clove.

    Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2009
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very fine and reserved, with a delicate waxy bouquet whose aromas of white peach, pear and apple are backed by dusty oak plus a hint of smoke and pastry. Very long and stylised, with a restrained core of stonefruit flavours, a fine chalkiness and a sherbet-like note culminating in a lemonade-like finish. Quite ethereal, but lacking the emphasis and depth of fruit for an even higher rating.

Superbly polished, measured and elegant, with balletic poise and stature. Its fragrant, lightly smoky perfume of white peach, grapefruit, melon and fine-grained vanilla oak has a delightful intensity and purity. Long and tightly focused, its seamless, fluffy presence of pristine fruit integrates with tight-knit vanilla oak and culminates in a briny, slatey finish of brittle acidity and exceptional persistence.
