    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 1996
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Opulent, thoroughbred chardonnay exotically perfumed with citrus/melon fruit, spicy new smoky oak and grilled nuts. As refined and elegant as such a remarkably sumptuous and complex wine can be, it has a creamy, chewy texture, bacony and butterscotch malolactic influences and finishes long, with taught mineral acids. As fine an Australian chardonnay as I have seen.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 1998
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

Even more concentrated and luscious than the ground-breaking 1996 vintage of this wine, the latest Giaconda is a typically fragrant, complex, focused and minerally chardonnay whose harmonies of lightly smoky oak, citrus and honeysuckle fruit, spicy clove and earthy complexity fit so tightly together they could have been composed by Mozart. It’s more assertive in its malolactic influences than previous Giaconda’s, but it has more fruit than ever to carry such embellishment. Long, sumptuous, savoury and classically dry, it’s simply stupendous.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2002
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sumptuous and seamless, perhaps revealing less artefact and more fruit purity than the signature 1996 vintage, but it looks capable of attaining similar complexity with bottle-age. Beneath fresh melon and stonefruit flavours, nutty and oatmeal-like influences lie suggestions of earth and mineral, while the palate’s succulent baby fat texture culminates in a lingering, dry and savoury. Should develop classically.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2004
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylistically, perhaps, this wine has more to do with Puligny than the more Meursault-like vintages of the past. Its lightly smoky and floral aromas of grapefruit and lemon rind, honeysuckle and nougat reveal mineral undertones of wet stones and meaty suggestions of leesy complexity. Typically concentrated, long, creamy and effortlessly smooth, the elegant and almost fluffy palate delivers deep flavours of peach, nectarine, melon and grapefruit with a slightly brassy and candied aspect. It finishes long, savoury and harmonious, with perhaps a shade more development than expected.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2005
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A typically complex but possibly quite evolved chardonnay with a very developed colour and a smoky, mineral and reductive bouquet of charcuterie, matchstick, honeydew melon and lime. It’s unctuous and richly fruited, with deep, lingering flavours of grapefruit, melon and cumquat backed by suggestions of smoked ham and bacon, finishing long and tangy, with lime juice and lemony acids.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2006
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Handsome, savoury and seamlessly structured, with a smoky fragrance of melon, peach and grapefruit, plus undertones of sherbet, minerals, matchstick and wheatmeal. ThereÕs also a floral, lanolin-like waxiness that adds to its complexity. Medium to full in weight, with sumptuous, concentrated fruit, it marries a richness and fattiness of texture with an elegance and fineness. It finishes long and persistent, with bright crystalline acids and lingering notes of hazelnuts, smoked hams and nougat.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sumptuous, seamless and luscious, with exceptional concentration and balance. A spicy, heady bouquet of melon, lime juice, pithy grapefruit scents, nougat and cinnamon overlies a complex spectrum of lemon candy, mineral, smoked bacon, wheatmeal and wet slate aromas. ItÕs unctuous and creamy, with deep layers of fruit, ginger-like spice and clove and vanilla oak underpinned by a fine chalkiness, ultimately culminating in a focused, briny and mineral finish.
