    $35.00

Let this wine open a little and marvel at what $30 can still buy you. Heady and musky, with a fiery bouquet of red berries, plums and redcurrants backed by suggestions of cedar, graphite and eastern spice, it’s medium in weight but delivers surprising intensity and texture. Underpinned by a slatey spine, its generous dark fruit drives long and persistent, while the finish is stylish and savoury. What a package!

    Altera Terra Syrah 2023
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    $48.00

A charming, gentle, translucently clear and savoury shiraz made in a restrained, savoury northern Rhone style. It’s floral and faintly musky, with appealing aromas of dark berries, cherries and very restrained cedary oak, while its medium-weight palate marries a pleasing depth of fruit with supple tannins and a hint of mint. A fine and affordable alternative to northern Rhone shiraz.

  • Altera Terra Wood’s Paddock Shiraz 2022
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    $95.00

World class wine that simply shrieks a top-class site in the northern Rhone. Astonishing power of flavour, balance and elegance. A true fist in a velvet glove, it’s a real half-way stage between top-class pinot noir and shiraz. Does the variety really end up mattering? Its perfume defies belief for its heady, floral, musky and spicy perfume of black, blue and red flowers, exotic spices, cardamon and blood plums. Over time it has become more earthy and mineral, while its outstanding oak shines though. The palate glides with effortless style as its translucently pure core of vivacious but supremely restrained fruit wraps around the finest and firmest of dry, mineral tannins, finishing exceptionally long and savoury. Astonishing. A landmark wine. Unforgettable. Lord knows what it would cost if it came from the northern Rhone!

  • Altera Terra Wood’s Paddock Shiraz 2021

    $95.00

A truly superior medium-bodied and savoury Rhône-inspired shiraz which gradually unfolds a heady, dark and smoky bouquet of blackberries, cassis and dark plums backed by notes of gravel and mineral but lifted by exotic scents of eastern spices. Almost a case of shiraz meeting pinot, it’s long and deeply layered, with a dewy core of black and red fruits framed by pliant but genuinely firm and bony tannins, building flesh and roundness as it finishes with an emphatic flourish of pristine flavour and balance.
