  • Bindi Quartz Chardonnay 2009
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Distinctly textural, with an underswell of minerality evident throughout its spicy, waxy and lanolin-scented bouquet of grapefruit, melon and lemon blossom. Long and pulpy, its chalky palate reveals undertones of fresh vanilla oak, struck match, cloves and ginger, building its weight and richness of spicy, citrusy flavour towards a dry and savoury finish, culminating in an oyster shell-like lick of brine.

  • Bindi Quartz Chardonnay 2013

Handsomely oaked and powerfully mineral, this complex and evolved young chardonnay takes time for its youthful estery properties to dissipate and reveal its true character. Rather closed, its aromas of grapefruit, melon and lime juice reveal nuances of wet slate and bath salts while its long, creamy and deeply flavoured palate punctuates its nutty and faintly candied presence of fruit with a sappy, mouthwatering acidity and a savoury, mineral finish.

Stylish and shapely, with an intense bouquet of grapefruit and lemon blossom knit with gentle vanilla oak and underscored by briny suggestions of oyster shell and mineral. It’s intensely flavoured nad pristine, with a translucently clear and deftly oaked core of citrus and mineral extending long and textured towards a focused, savoury finish of taut, refreshing acidity.

A massive surprise when recently tasted at nine years of age. Alluring floral scents of pear, apple skin and a dusting of dried herbs with emerging toasty, buttery and honeyed complexity also reveal notes of mineral and creamy yeast-derived influences. It’s long, unctuous, smooth and seamless, gently rolling down the palate with suggestions of citrus oil, pear and melon underpinned by a fine chalkiness and a hint of mineral to finish. Beautifully measured, almost savoury and with a hint of saline, it’s a superbly presented wine with plenty of freshness and life ahead. Delightful.
