  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Ripe, firm old school Australian cabernet whose floral, mushroomy perfume of pastille-like cassis, dark plums and cedary oak overlies a faint earthiness. Supported by a drying, rod-like spine, it presents a ripe, firmish palate that finishes long and complete.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Chardonnay 2024
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5
    $35.00

Ripe aromas of yellow peach, coriander, grapefruit and mineral with suggestions of creamy nougat and vanilla oak precede a forward, flavoursome and crunchy palate whose pleasing expression of flavour doesn’t extend with massive length. It finishes spotlessly clean and refreshing, with some savoury and mineral nuances.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1994
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A brilliant, sumptuous, savoury red of fabulously rich, concentrated fruit perfectly married with lashings of smoky new oak. Classic spicy, peppery shiraz, with a long, supple palate whose power and intensity almost belie its poise and elegance. A classic.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1996
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

There is certainly the richness of fruit to carry this powerfully constructed and concentrated shiraz. Musky, spicy ripe flavours of minty, briary blue and sour black berries are matched with smoky mocha oak, creating a plush, but firm and very fine-grained palate of great intensity and balance.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1997
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Another rather baffling wine given its price and pedigree. Sweet simple brambly confection-like redcurrant and raspberry fruit is wrapped in mountains of dusty vanilla and caramel oak. There’s insufficient fruit to provide much palate weight and the wine is heavily dependent on oak for its length and structure. Hot, hollow and unashamedly beefed up, it’s a sad moment for this famous label.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1998
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Smooth, stylish and finely crafted, this briary and slightly wild and spicy Coonawarra shiraz artfully delivers intense varietal fruit in a fine, elegant and willowy package. Its spicy aromas of cassis, dark plums, white pepper and cloves precede a firm and fine-grained palate packed with intense dark berry flavour. It finishes long, and vibrant, with stellar integration between fruit and structure.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1999
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Rather simple and jammy for this label; its dark, earthy and leathery aroma of dark plums and cassis is backed by licorice and treacle. Ripe and soft, its generous but uncomplicated fruit finishes savoury and firm, and the wine is permeated throughout by a greenish, sappy texture.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 2003
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A very good and stylish shiraz of full to medium weight that gradually opens to reveal a very musky perfume of cassis, dark plums and raspberries, backed by white pepper, cloves, cinnamon and sweet chocolate/vanilla oak. Very smooth, supple and elegant for a Michael, its succulent and charmingly pristine and spicy shiraz flavour is supported by an artfully crafted spine of firm but loose-knit tannin. Very elegant and sophisticated; likely to cellar exceptionally well.
