Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An elegant and rather stylish combination of fleshy ripe fruit and genuine focus, with a deep, dark core of intense cabernet character. Scented with cassis, dark plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak, itÕs lifted by nuances of violets and backed by suggestions of dustiness and dried herbs. Long, firm and varietally correct, itÕs supported by a drying undercarriage of fine, supple tannins, finishing with freshness and a silky balance.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A rather formulaic and constructed cabernet with impressive concentration and presence, but lacking genuine expression and character. Jammy, faintly porty aromas of cassis, blackberries, mulberries and briar are knot with handsome chocolate/vanilla oak, backed by suggestions of mint and menthol. ItÕs long, deeply ripened and assertively oaked, but while itÕs rich, firm and pliant, it does lack its customary brightness and freshness.

Stylish, smooth and well bred, this elegant, if slightly one-dimensional cabernet has a dusty, slightly confectionary bouquet of small red berries and cedary oak with smoky undertones. ItÕs long and pliant, with bright, fresh and juicy red berry flavours underpinned by dusty, fine-grained tannins, finishing with freshness and focus.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Elegant and finely structured, with a dusty, slightly minty fragrance of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and menthol backed by smoky cedar/vanilla oak revealing just a hint of eucalypt. Underpinned by fine, grainy tannins, itÕs long and supple, with intense flavours of small black and red berries harmoniously offset by cedary oak and a bright, refreshing acidity. Likely to become genuinely complex with time.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Finely measured and proportioned, this floral and faintly herbal cabernet has a dusty, juicy bouquet of blackberries, cassis and mulberries underpinned by cedary oak, suggestions of dark olives and greenish, capsicum-like notes. ItÕs firmish and fine-grained, with a moderately long palate of bright dark plums and cassis flavour knit with sweet cedar/mocha oak and underpinned by a structured, slatey extract. It finishes with some greenish edges and without the emphasis of the top seasons.

Tightly knit and artfully balanced, this pristine, if slightly minty cabernet reveals a faintly herbal bouquet of cassis, red berries and sweet cedary oak. Full to medium-bodied, itÕs long and gentle, with almost a sappy expression of sweetly ripened red berries, cranberries and plums underpinned by pliant, dusty tannins and cedar/vanilla oak. It finishes with pleasing length and a vital acidity.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

Ripe, juicy aromas of cassis, dark plums and mulberries backed by fresh chocolate/coconut ice oak have a sweetness and jamminess. ItÕs soft and smooth, with a plush, almost opulent and Californian-styled palate whose minty and almost globular fruit is underpinned by a raw, slightly aggressive extract and finished with an assertive, slightly contrived tartness. Rather formulaic.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Dusty, minty and herbal notes of cassis, blueberries and violets underpinned by cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak and a whiff of graphite offer moderate but not great intensity. Fine-grained and drying, its dark, linear palate of minty cabernet fruit, polished oak and crunchy tannins are rimmed by herbaceous, greenish notes and lacks the genuine depth and structure to be rated more highly.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

Although relatively simple and uncomplicated, this is an honest, elegant cabernet whose sweet, slightly confectionary bouquet of red berries, cassis and creamy vanilla oak overlies nuances of red cherries and dried herbs. ItÕs long and smooth, with generous red berry/cherry fruit knit tightly with creamy cedar/vanilla oak, finishing with freshness and balance.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Australian cabernet for the Chinese palate, with a front label that even mimics the Chinese lead of dating the labelÕs first vintage. Luscious, ripe and minty, itÕs steeped in ripe red and black berries and dark plums offset by a background of fresh, faintly smoky cedar/vanilla/dark chocolate oak. Juicy, gluggy and sweetly fruited, with undertones of menthol and dried herbs, itÕs smooth and polished, revealing a very un-Penfolds-like spine of pliant, loose-knit tannins, of modest strength but easy-drinking suppleness. Stylistically itÕs a mile from its first vintages and the Bin 707 which Penfolds still claims itÕs inspired by. That said, if you want an opulent, ready-to-go cabernet with almost Napa-like plushness and fatness, this is your wine. Personally, IÕd favour the classic 2018 Black Label from Wynns Ð a far superior wine at a fraction of the price.
