A wonderful wine now beginning to show genuine smoky, toasty developed influences. Still remarkably fresh and youthful, with a heady bouquet of crystal-clear lime/melon fruit backed by nuances of mineral and tobacco, itÕs long, fine and austere. Deeply layered, with an expressive but precisely focused palate of melon, citrus fruits and chalky undertones, it’s remarkably taut and fresh. Set for the long term.
Very subtle and youthful, this classic traditional style has a dusty, rather closed, buttery and faintly spicy bouquet of melon, lemon and a hint of tobacco. ItÕs long, fine and elegant, with a restrained presence of fruit that builds in weight and intensity towards the finish. ItÕs dry and savoury, with a hint of mineral.
A luscious, riper but perfectly balanced example of a warmer seasonÕs Vat 1. Scented with a floral, lavender-like perfume of honeydew melon with toasty, waxy undertones and a hint of clove, itÕs round, generous, and juicy, with unusual weight and concentration for such a young wine. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, it finishes with excellent length and bright lemony acidity, with a lingering core of fruit and a mineral presence. Drinkable indeed already, but its best is certainly to come!
An adolescent semillon whose delicate, waxy and floral bouquet of lemon rind, honeydew melon and nougat reveals faintly smoky, creamy and honeyed nuances. ItÕs intense and mouthfilling, sumptuously and richly fruited with a fresh, tangy presence of melon and citrus fruit playing down a long, lemon sherbet-like palate towards a fine, chalky and tightly focused finish.
Lightly herbal, creamy aromas of honeydew melon and lemon backed by nuances of cumquat, butter and lemon sherbet precede a juicy, tangy palate of medium weight whose lemon/melon fruit extends smooth and fleshy down a long, soft palate wrapped up in a gentle, refreshing acidity. It lacks the great length and focus of the top vintages but has some potential to age.
A classical Hunter semillon whose fragrant aromas of lemon and lime juice reveals undertones of chalk and mineral, nuances of white flowers and honeydew melon, plus an emerging waxy note. ItÕs long, chalky and measured, with a layered, evenly paced and translucently clear expression of citrus, apple and melon flavour elegantly extending with a lemony acidity towards a soft but focused finish.
Finely crafted, lean and restrained, with notes of lemon, melon and tobacco.
Smoky, buttery, tobaccoey aromas of melon, lemon and a hint of mineral; long and chalky, with concentrated, punchy fruit finishing with length and harmony. Developing very slowly and likely to become a long-term classic.
Floral, waxy scents of lemon and lime with smoky, mineral undertones. Long and gentle; zesty lemon/lime acids shape a smooth, generous palate whose creamy expression of maturing flavour overlies a fine dustiness.
Toasty and faintly tobaccoey, itÕs scented with lemon essence, green lemon and lime. ItÕs medium in weight, long and tightly focused, with a pristine core of fruit extending over a fine chalkiness towards a finely honed finish of brightly lit acids.
