A superlative chardonnay whose smoky bouquet of grapefruit, melon, lime and white peach reveals nuances of coriander, popcorn, tight-grained oak, oyster shell and a hint of bath salt. Supremely long and complete, with a plush, juicy core of fruit, it eases long and shapely down a fine, mineral spine towards a refreshing, savoury and saline finish of tightly focused citrusy acidity. A true benchmark wine of world class.
A beautifully crafted, mineral and schisty chardonnay whose alluring fragrance of apple skin, grapefruit, oyster shell and coriander reveal undertones of schist and brine. It’s medium in weight, reserved and focused, with some forward plumpness and very pleasing length, finishing with a lemony freshness a faint and brittleness plus a chalky mineral note. Wonderfully balanced, generous and strident in the purity of its fruit expression, it’s fresh, tangy and saline to finish. It just lacks the exceptional length of the greatest vintages.
A fine cool climate pinot thatÕs likely to build with time. Its floral, heady perfume of sweet red cherries, raspberries and strawberries is underpinned by tight-grained and faintly toasty vanilla/cedar oak, revealing some faintly herbal whole bunch notes but remaining profoundly fruit-focused. Supple and smooth, itÕs long and gentle, with a vibrant sweetly-fruited presence of juicy berry and cherry flavour supported by fine, dusty tannins and wrapped in a lively acidity.
Spicy, faintly peppery and floral; smooth and silky with pristine, luscious berry/cherry fruit. It has evolved with excellent richness, depth and structure, still delivering a fine length of sumptuous fruit supported by tannins of firmness and dryness. Really good pinot noir that has plenty of time ahead.
Gentle, supple and sappy; fresh raspberries, red cherries, rose petals and spice; medium in weight, long and soft. Just lacks core of mid palate intensity, but could yet flesh out.
Pretty, perfumed and musky, with sumptuous black and red cherry flavour, polished oak and a fine, slatey spine. Long, faintly herbal and dusty.
Measured, evenly paced and deeply flavoured, with a sweet, earthy bouquet of red cherries, cedary oak, five spice, cola and rose petals. ItÕs smooth and seamless, with a good, not exceptional length of fiery berry/cherry fruit supported by firmish, powdery tannins, finishing with a faint sappiness and a lingering note of fennel.
Deep, dark layers of cherries, plums and berries tightly knit with smoky, fine-grained oak and revealing a whiff of beetroot and menthol precede a luscious, ripe and mouthfilling palate whose dark red, blue and black berry/cherry flavours are tightly knit with a fine, drying and firmish spine of grainy tannin. There’s a hint of muskiness and exotic spice throughout this wine, which delivers luscious New World fruit harmoniously knit with Old World-like elements of and texture and complexity. A beautifully layered and complete wine: a keeper.
