Dusty, herbal and lightly smoky, with leafy aromas of intense dark fruit, suggestions of tar and chocolate oak. Reserved and herbal, with its remaining fruit sweetness beginning to dry out, leaving a slightly sappy and green-edged extract of tannins. Perhaps showing shaded fruit influences, and certainly past its best.
Perfumed, fragrant and complex, with ripe aromas of redcurrants, blackberries and sweet cedar/vanilla oak. Smooth and seamless, with a plush palate steeped with penetrative flavours of small berries and a light earthiness. Framed by creamy tannins but marginally short, it’s an elegant predecessor of modern Moss Wood wines.
Richly laden with ripe fruits, cedar and leather, chocolate and lanolin, and a suggestion of herbaceousness; a truly sumptuous and plush, but fine-grained claret of length and structure. Very complex, with lively small fruits and restrained oak.
Leafy, rather soupy and vegetative, with cedary oak. Shaded fruit qualities of hard, but sappy tannins and generally under-ripe flavour development.
Very developed, ageing aromas of very smoky cigarboxy and cedary cabernet fruit and walnuts. Ripe and forward, but now starting to fade from the back and lacking real length. Was clearly bigger and richer.
Stewy and meaty, but leafy and wet wool-like aromas are under-ripe and greenish. Rich and firm, but raw and sappy to finish, lacking length and ripeness.
Rather dilute and earthy, cedary aromas without fruit intensity. Simple, slightly confected and greenish palate lacking genuine ripeness and stuffing, finishing watery and thin.
Very complex, maturing and fragrant perfume of cedar and cigarboxes, before a supremely long and refined palate of pristine fruit, a supple and creamy texture and silky-fine tannins. Wonderful refinement and harmony.
Ethereal, smoky bonfire-like aromas with nuances of dust and dried herbs precede a robust, concentrated palate of assertion and power. Balanced and not without some trademark elegance.
Herby, dusty capsicum aromas over delicate suggestions of small and brightly flavoured red and black berries and lightly smoky, cedary oak. Robust and firm, rather unyielding, lacking genuine depth of ripe fruit and bound by greenish astringency.
Confected, slightly cooked redcurrant and cranberry bouquet with sweet cedar/vanilla oak. Firm, rather backward, lacking the fruit sweetness to complement its hard-edged extract.
Restrained, dusty and cedary bouquet of sweet leather and chocolates, with a suggestion of red plums. Pleasingly rich, smooth and polished, but lacking great length. Good effort from a tough year.
