A supple and finely astringent sangiovese whose delicate perfume of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and citrus notes is backed by a hint of funky complexity and lifted by sweet floral notes. It’s long and tight-knit, with a vibrant, translucent presence of small blue and black fruits that extends long and elegant towards a tightly focused finish of refreshingly bright acidity.

  • Vinea Marson Sangiovese 2013
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    $54.00

A full, robust sangiovese with a heady, deeply aromatic and floral bouquet of red cherries, plums and meaty, faintly herbal nuances overlying notes of spice and cola. Its sumptuous, deeply flavoured and faintly sour-edged core of red cherries, blackberries and blueberries is supported by firmish, grainy tannins, finishing savoury with profound length, structure and a fine acid balance. As a mature wine it’s deeply flavoured, vibrant and juicy, with plenty of leathery development that works perfectly with its savoury aspects.

  • Vinea Marson Sangiovese 2014
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Spicy scents of red cherries, blood plums, cinnamon and baked earthy with a whiff of citrus oil precede a smooth, refined and gentle palate of ultra-fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Superbly balanced and supple, unfolding layers of fruit and texture, it’s unquestionably a leading Australian expression of this variety and frankly absurd value for money. Tasted more than eight years later, it has evolved wonderfully, developing layers of perfume and texture, weight and richness of flavour, extending long and complete towards a lingering, savoury finish with earthy and meaty nuances. The tannins have bult superbly, folding the wine within a firmness and balanced structure that enhances every single other aspect of its quality.

    $46.00

2021 has delivered an exceptional, but different Vinea Marson Sangiovese. It’s deeply ripened, dark-fruited and fleshy, with a wonderful drive of plush but gentle, seamless fruit and extract. More like a Rosso di Montalcino than the more traditional Chianti-like expression from this vineyard, it’s deeply spiced, perfumed and heady. Underpinned by a fine, powdery and superbly integrated backbone, it’s superbly varietal and balanced, finishing quite savoury with refreshing acids, a lingering sandpapery grip and a wonderful drive of dark red fruit.
