Seamless, smooth and generous, this complex and savoury chardonnay has a lightly soapy fragrance of peach, melon and grapefruit supported by sweet nutty, buttery and spicy undertones of lemon, vanilla, dried flowers, cloves and nutmeg. Richly fruited, its unctuous and surprisingly powerful palate of lingering stonefruit, citrus and mealy flavours culminates in a lingering savoury and nutty finish. Very restrained and complex.
Supple and stylish, this tangy, dry and Macon-like chardonnay has a lightly floral and banana-like aroma of grapefruit and melon fruit with underlying nuances of toasty vanilla oak and creamy, charcuterie-like lees-derived complexity. Initially vibrant and juicy, with neatly integrated nutty vanilla oak, it extends towards a long, crisp and savoury finish of refreshing acidity.
Heady aromas of dried flowers, honeydew melon, white peach and nutty, buttery vanilla oak are backed by suggestions of wheatmeal and grilled nuts. Long, reserved and finely crafted, its smooth and gentle palate builds towards a balanced and savoury crescendo of succulent melon, peach and cumquat flavour, fine phenolics and refreshing acids. A step up in concentration and emphasis for this style.
Pungent and very developed, with pronounced buttery, toasty and honeyed characters that almost obscure its aromas of peach, grilled nuts and apricot. ItÕs broad and forward, lacking its usual shape and direction, appearing thick and creamy, rather heavy-handed and inelegant. Quite a departure from the Petaluma standard and style.
Slightly too ripe and warm for a higher rating, this remains a very well crafted chardonnay of seamless length and flavour. Its ripe, slightly spirity aromas of grapefruit, melon and white peach reveal undertones of cloves, ginger and nutmeg, with tightly knit vanilla oak. Supple and juicy, itÕs quite luscious and concentrated, with a long, smooth and fluffy presence of fresh peach, pear and grapefruit backed by hints of wheatmeal and vanilla custard. Slightly raw at present, the oak should ease back shortly.
Needing time to evolve in the glass, with a complex, nutty and waxy, slightly mealy bouquet of melon, stonefruit, cloves and cinnamon backed by nuances of tropical fruits, grapefruit and dried flowers. ItÕs smooth and generous, with a deep core of evenly ripened fruit underpinned by a powdery backbone before finishing long and quite complete, with waxy, savoury elements.
A complex and complete chardonnay whose forward, slightly brassy and custard-like bouquet of melon, fig and buttery oak are backed by suggestions of minerals and yellow flowers. ItÕs long, smooth and generous, with deep regional chardonnay flavours finishing with a fine cut of acids, lingering lemony, limey and mineral notes.
Very fine, elegant, supple and savoury, this developing, waxy and lightly mineral chardonnay has a perfumed, lanolin-like bouquet of grapefruit, melon and lemon rind backed by notes of hessian and dried flowers. Already toasty, it retains a reserved line of citrusy, custard-like fruit underpinned by a fine slatey and mineral texture.
Very stylish and complete, with a rather restrained, waxy and mineral bouquet of melon, peach and grapefruit backed by carefully measured, spicy oxidative complexity. Long and elegant, with a typically reserved and layered presence of melon, grapefruit, peach backed by waxy, meaty nuances and a hint of custard, itÕs tightly knit with assertive oak, finely textured and tightly focused, steadily building intensity towards the finish.
Elegant and stylish, this fruit-focused chardonnay has a creamy, buttery fragrance of peach, grapefruit and melon with undertones of vanilla and a hint of custard. ItÕs underpinned by a fine chalkiness, revealing a delicate, fluffy presence of pristine citrus, stonefruit and melon flavours knit seamlessly with gentle oak, lemony acids and a suggestion of butterscotch. Likely to age slowly and gracefully.
