    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2007
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A very contemporary, richly fruited and opulent Grange that is already very smooth and approachable. ItÕs very ripe and perfumed, scented with meaty aromas of cassis, blackberries, dates and figs knit with sweet, fine-grained mocha-like oak. Long, sweetly flavoured and backed by gamey complexity, it drips with intense, sumptuous fruit handsomely integrated with oak and polished, pliant tannins. With time it should more closely resemble the classical Grange benchmark.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2008
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Deeply ripened and polished, with genuine finesse, this wild and briary shiraz steadily unfolds deeply ripened, fiery and smoky aromas of dark plums and blackberries, cassis, prunes and currants with meaty, chocolatey undertones and a hint of treacle. Very smooth and measured, itÕs moderately long and seamless, with handsomely oaked, deeply ripened and faintly tarry and spirity fruit supported by a surprisingly gentle backbone of pliant tannins. Perhaps showing more finesse than many young Granges, but doesnÕt quite deliver the length and presence of the great vintages.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2009
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A complete, measured and more elegant expression of this wine whose rich, meaty bouquet of blackberries, cassis, blood plums, briary notes and cranberries knits tightly with finely balanced chocolate/cedar oak, revealing suggestions of liqueured plums and earthy notes. ItÕs smooth and sumptuous, with an alluring, approachable and finely balanced expression of fiery dark plum, blackberry and red fruit and polished dark chocolate oak extending long down a fine but firm and drying undercarriage of grainy tannins, finishing with typical nuances of roasting pan scrapings. Essentially a less powerful Grange, but nevertheless a complete, harmonious and charming wine of controlled underlying power.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Supremely well made and uber-refined, this is a classic Grange of density, balance and elegance. ItÕs wonderfully vital and pure, with a deeply ripened bouquet of blackberries, dark plums and cassis that soaks up its sweet cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak, becoming more fiery and briary with aeration. It steadily reveals nuances of exotic spices, floral perfume and a hint of meatiness. Long and luxuriant, with deep tightly knit and handsomely oaked layers of sour-edged dark plum and berry flavour, itÕs supported by a fine chalkiness, finishes with a brightly lit acidity and is already alarmingly drinkable for a wine whose best years are several decades away.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2011
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Assertive but lacking harmony, this medium to full-bodied Grange is unlikely to age for a long time. Its meaty, faintly herbal and dusty bouquet of cassis and smoky, chocolatey oak reveals herbal and greenish aspects while its initial impact of concentrated, densely packed dark fruit is framed by a faintly metallic and disjointed spine. It lacks great length and drive, relies more than usual on extract for presence on the palate and dries out towards a thin and edgy finish.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2012
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A benchmark young Grange, steeped fruit and with a firm, drying structure. Complex, heady, smoky and faintly meaty aromas of densely packed blood plums, black, blue and red berries are knit with chocolatey, cedary oak and backed by a whiff of balsamic. Deeply and powerfully ripened, with a long, sumptuous and searingly intense presence of black and red fruits framed by firmish, crunchy tannins, it finishes with a persistent core of flavour and a note of licorice. Keep it.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2013
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A strong second tier Grange whose wild, briary and meaty scents of cassis, dark plums, treacle and roasting meat juices overlie notes of soy, smoke and mineral. Profoundly ripened, itÕs powerful and concentrated, with assertive, fiery dark berry and plum-like fruit, cedary oak and mineral nuances underpinned by a firm, sinewy backbone. Finishing long and meaty, itÕs very complete and entire, and just needs a decade or to settle.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2014
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sumptuous, smooth and measured; deep dark black, blue and red fruits with leathery, cedary notes, firm pliant tannins and meaty undertones of roasting tray juices. ItÕs perfumed and spicy, with almost a durif-like wildness and a drying, kernelly finish. ItÕs an elegant, finer Grange with tight-knit oak that slowly unfolds in the glass, finishing with drive and effortless length.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2015
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Lustrous and perfumed, with an arrestingly pure and heady bouquet of translucently clear dark plums, blackberries, cassis and dark cherries overlying notes of dark chocolates, bouquet of garni, roasting meats and cedar. ItÕs both sumptuous and stylish; an artfully modern shiraz whose explosively flavoured, sour-edged fruit suggests the meaty, five spice and deeply layered qualities of old Puer tea. Extending with exceptional drive and shape over a firmish spine of fine, crunchy tannins, itÕs artfully balanced, wrapped in a lively acidity and set for the long haul. Reminiscent of the exceptional Granges from 1991 and 1994.

    Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2017
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Smooth and polished, this earlier-drinking Grange unfolds a faintly meaty, cigarboxy bouquet of blackberries, dark plums, cassis and briar with charry, cedary undertones of smoke and leather. ItÕs long and restrained, already showing some charming development, with a finer, more elegant weight of fruit framed by fine, gravelly tannins. Certainly a reflection of its cooler vintage, itÕs a lighter, more textural Grange of pleasing complexity and balance.
