Deeply and opulently perfumed with heady, briary aromas of cassis, plums and fragrant, fine-grained vanilla and gamey oak, this deep, luscious wine has a powerful core of vibrant fruit. Jujube-like flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry and blood plum with undertones of dark olives, plain chocolate, prune and currant are framed by assertive but tightly integrated tannins. Exemplary integration and balance for a wine of such impressive structure.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sweet, juicy and rather jammy aromas of red and black berries and smoky cedar/vanilla oak precede a supple, smooth and moderately long palate whose vibrant mulberry, redcurrant, plum and blueberry flavours are backed by creamy oak and framed by smooth, round tannins. Well-handled and uncomplicated.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Quite a surprise, and perhaps something of a Napa look-alike, this very stylish, velvet-smooth and charmingly balanced cabernet marries plush, dark and alluring cassis and dark berry-like fruit with fragrant influences of smoky vanilla oak with slightly gamey and roast chestnut-like qualities. Toasty and perfumed, its deeply layered palate of juicy fruit is tightly knit with fine, firm and drying tannin, finishing exceptionally harmonious, with terrific length and persistence.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
    Jeremy’s score 86/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Simple, jammy and overcooked, with a heady, floral bouquet of violets, mulberries and cassis integrated with sweet new vanilla/cedar oak with meaty, treacle-like and raisiny undertones. ItÕs ultra-ripe and jammy, with a simple, confiture-like expression of juicy, raisiny fruit that lacks genuine structure and character

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
    Jeremy’s score 82/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Under and overripened, with dull, raisined and currant-like aromas underpinned by assertive oak. Lifted by sweet mocha and cedary oak, its medium to full-bodied palate of dehydrated fruit lacks brightness and freshness, thinning out towards a slightly raw, metallic and green-edged finish. Hard to understand.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Shiraz 2005
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Spicy, floral and heady aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries and cedar/dark chocolate/vanilla oak overlie dusty, earthy and almost muddy undertones. Rich and substantial, its mouthfilling palate of briary blackberry, plum and red berry fruits has a jujube-like quality and a racy, sour-edged aspect. Framed by firm, fine and drying tannins, and backed by some assertive new oak, it’s appealing and at present uncomplicated, but right on the style button for the Penfolds customer.

An elegant, stylish and tightly integrated Penfolds red whose sweet, floral and smoky bouquet of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and raspberries reveals notes of smoked bacon and chocolatey oak. ItÕs smooth and polished, with an excellent length of plump, juicy dark berry and plum-like fruit, smoky chocolate oak and refreshing acids underpinned by pliant tannins. It finishes with harmony and focus, a lingering core of fruit and dusty notes of dried herbs.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Chardonnay 2010
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Fresh, bright and generous, with delightful emphasis on fruit and sporting a measured degree of winemaking-derived complexity, it has a fragrant scent of grapefruit , melon, lemon blossom and ham hock backed by smoky, funky matchstick notes. Long and vibrant, with a crunchy presence of ripe stonefruit, custard and grapefruit backed by smoky, meaty complexity, itÕs long and vibrant, finishing with taut, brittle acids.
