Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 1999
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

There’s plenty to like about this spicy, lightly herbal and minty young cabernet of moderate creamy richness and weight. There’s good thickness and structure of lively cassis, raspberry and plum fruit, some well-handled cedar/mocha oak and some good fine extract.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sweaty, greenish and leathery notes underpin aromas of small dark berries, cedar and vanilla oak. ItÕs greenish, cooked and simple, revealing under and over-ripened fruit supported by a raw-edged extract. Too hard-edged for its weight of fruit.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Dusty herbal and greenish characters combine with slightly overcooked and earthy qualities in this fine and more elegant Bin 407. There are some pleasing small berry fruits, but overall the wine is too vegetal, displaying almost silage-like influences.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A long and brightly flavoured cabernet whose violet-like fragrance of cassis, dark plums, cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak reveals leafy undertones of mint and earth. Smooth and supple, its long and vibrant palate delivers intense but confectionary flavours of cassis and small red berries framed by firm, but smooth tannins and sweet vanilla oak. It finishes with length and astringency, but remains too confectionary for a higher score.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A very un-Penfolds-like cabernet of elegance and style (in the way this wine has been tending towards), but with an uncharacteristic greenish aspect that comes across as a dried herb aroma and a hint of capsicum on the palate. Its dusty and perfumed aromas of sweet red and black berries, dark cherries, cedar and cigarboxy oak reveal delicate suggestions of violets and cassis. Supple and smooth, it presents a cool climate-like array of intense jujube-like cabernet flavour combined with smart, newish and lightly toasted cedar/vanilla oak and supported by a tight, firm and powdery extract. Good depth and structure.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylish, structured and finely crafted, this impressive young cabernet reveals a minty aroma of cassis, violets, dark cherries and small red berry fruits neatly interwoven with cedar/dark chocolate oak. Its slightly vegetal undertones of dried herbs should become more tobacco-like with time in the bottle. Smooth and silky, its spotless and pristine palate of vibrant, juicy small berry fruits and fine-grained oak is framed by a fine cut of firm tannin. A very correct cabernet indeed, even with the presence of some genuinely valid cooler characters.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Quite a charmer, dark and handsomely fruited, with a dusty, floral bouquet of violets, blackberries, plums and cedar/chocolate oak over nuances of mocha and dried herbs. Its long, polished palate of sumptuous, vibrant fruit and fine-grained dusty tannin delivers genuine elegance and structure, finishing with pleasing balance and persistent fruit.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Dusty, leafy and rather meaty, with a herbal presence of slightly baked black and red fruits over an under-ripened herbal aspect. ItÕs forward and generous, with an open, firm and chalky backbone and a polished measure of cedary oak, but remains rather hollow and green-edged. While it finishes slightly meaty and salty, it has clearly been made very well from fruit that was under and overripe.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An elegant and rather stylish combination of fleshy ripe fruit and genuine focus, with a deep, dark core of intense cabernet character. Scented with cassis, dark plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak, itÕs lifted by nuances of violets and backed by suggestions of dustiness and dried herbs. Long, firm and varietally correct, itÕs supported by a drying undercarriage of fine, supple tannins, finishing with freshness and a silky balance.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
    Jeremy’s score 90/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A rather formulaic and constructed cabernet with impressive concentration and presence, but lacking genuine expression and character. Jammy, faintly porty aromas of cassis, blackberries, mulberries and briar are knot with handsome chocolate/vanilla oak, backed by suggestions of mint and menthol. ItÕs long, deeply ripened and assertively oaked, but while itÕs rich, firm and pliant, it does lack its customary brightness and freshness.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylish, smooth and well bred, this elegant, if slightly one-dimensional cabernet has a dusty, slightly confectionary bouquet of small red berries and cedary oak with smoky undertones. ItÕs long and pliant, with bright, fresh and juicy red berry flavours underpinned by dusty, fine-grained tannins, finishing with freshness and focus.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Elegant and finely structured, with a dusty, slightly minty fragrance of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and menthol backed by smoky cedar/vanilla oak revealing just a hint of eucalypt. Underpinned by fine, grainy tannins, itÕs long and supple, with intense flavours of small black and red berries harmoniously offset by cedary oak and a bright, refreshing acidity. Likely to become genuinely complex with time.
