  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Exceptionally stylish, willowy and elegant, crafted in a style reminiscent of Cote-Rotie. Deep, faintly peppery aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, dark plums and fine-grained, deeply perfumed oak are lifted by scents of blue flowers, musk, charcuterie meats and Indian spices. Smooth and sensuous, its supple and beautifully measured palate of translucent fruit, spice and tightly knit oak is supported by fine, crunchy tannins, finishing very long and savoury, with lingering suggestions of mineral. Retasted in February 2025, it’s heady and spicy, delivering an elegant, fine and profoundly intense core of vivacious fruit, finishing savory, with licorice qualities. A little like the world’s smoothest roast lamb and rosemary.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2011
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A wild, spicy, meaty Rh™ne Valley style whose rather funky bouquet of dark plums, blackberries and briar is underpinned by smoky, mocha and chestnut-like oak and faint herbal nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it’s sumptuous and seamless, with a deep, lingering core of vibrant dark plums, cherries, licorice and savoury quality wrapped in velvet tannins. It delivers a fragrant and depth of expression rare in Australian shiraz. Tasted in 2025 it’s maturing and evolving considerably, with some herbal and citrusy notes emerging. It’s become a little hollow and faintly sappy and green-edged, but retains a wonderful intensity and core of flavour. It does open up with finesse and length. The flavour profile and elegance are pure Dardel, from a truly challenging cool season.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2012
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Profoundly flavoured, gentle and savoury, this effortless young Rhone-inspired shiraz reveals a deep, heady and exotically spiced bouquet of dark berries, cherries and plums laced with scents of violets, black pepper and fragrant, fine-grained oak. Long and smooth, it glides effortlessly down the palate despite its intensity, delivering an exceptional depth of wild, brambly fruit and newish oak underpinned by pliant, powdery tannins, finishing with a persistent core of fruit and a mineral note. Tasted in February 2025, it’s beginning to show some development, deeply scented with vibrant red fruits, licorice, roasting tray notes and potpourri. The palate is effortlessly long and pristine, finely polished, long and savoury. Pure class.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2013
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylish, ultra-fine and savoury, with a wild, heady, spicy and peppery bouquet of briary dark berries, plums and aromatic tight-grained oak backed by notes of musky spices, briar and smoked meats. Medium in weight, it’s supple, smooth and willowy, with sweet, pastille-like flavours of cassis, blackberries and dark plums extending over a long, fine-gained, crunchy spine towards a lingering, faintly meaty, mineral and savoury finish of exceptional balance and elegance. Complete and tightly focused, it should age well. Just a fraction jammy for an even higher rating. Tasted in February 2025, it has evolved into a delightful warmer climate wine that is developing finely but with less length of fruit than the top vintages

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2014
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A long, deeply ripened and artfully balanced shiraz with a musky, spicy and peppery bouquet of cassis, blackberries, small red berries and charcuterie meats tightly knit with fine-grained, faintly smoky oak and lifted by a profoundly floral perfume. Medium-bodied, it’s long, elegant and silky smooth, opening layers of opulent deep, dark and briary fruit tightly wound around fine, dusty tannins, finishing savoury and faintly mineral with a lingering core of fruit and gamey complexity punctuated by a mouthwatering acidity. Superbly balanced and complete, with latent power and depth. Developing slowly when tasted in February 2025, it’s supremely fine, stylish, long and still surprisingly youthful.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2015
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

One of the finest shirazes yet made in Australia, this is a landmark cool climate wine. Wild, musky and faintly meaty perfume of deep, lustrous black, blue and red berries lifted by profound floral scents reveals nuances of cedar and animal hide. Medium-bodied, it’s densely packed with pastille-like flavours of cassis, blackberries and dark plums, extending smooth and velvety down a tight-grained and slatey spine, building intensity towards a long, seamless finish of mineral and savoury qualities. Extraordinary. Smooth and generous but supremely elegant, youthful and harmonious. Very youthful. Tasted as a ten year-old in February 2025, I can say I called it right. It’s youthful and seamless, steeped in fruit and spice, all packaged into an elegance and layered charm that stamps it as Grand Cru class.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2016
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Fascinating. It might lack the charm and balance of the 2015 release but remains an exceptional wine of character, style and complexity. A deeply, lustrous perfume of cassis, dark plums, blood orange, dark chocolate, dried herbs and musky spices overlies a subtle underlay of tobacco and musk. Supported by fine, crunchy tannins, it’s long, savoury and mineral to finish, with an even, luscious core of black and red fruits, citrus notes and a lingering suggestion of fennel, graphite, dried herbs and spice. Tasted in February 2025, it’s become a platter of dried fruits, charcuterie meats, and wild flowers. There’s still plenty of life and vibrancy in this warmer year wine, so I expect it to will develop like the 2009 and 2008.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2017
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A masterpiece. Smoky, mineral and profoundly floral aromas of black and blue berries, paprika and exotic, musky spices, charcuterie and forest floor combine in an alluring, sensual bouquet. Explosively intense and exceptionally long, its energetic but medium-bodied palate of dark fruits, briar and tight-knit oak builds effortless depth and emphasis along its silky-fine backbone, finishing with suggestions of minerals, graphite, licorice and a racy, mouthwatering acidity. It’s an exercise in finesse and restrained power; the finest release under this label and a new high water mark in Australia for northern Rhone-inspired shiraz. Tasted in February 2025, I’m no less impressed. It’s truly astonishing for its deeply layered perfume and palate, where fruit, spice, oak and some developing characters have found a balance that’s simply astonishing. Complete, stylish, suave and savoury.

  • Paradise IV Dardel Shiraz 2018
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

It’s not often I find myself reviewing a shiraz that really thinks it’s a high-end pinot noir. That’s what I’m doing here, although – like many a pinot of great breeding – this wine will build depth and structure quite dramatically over the next 5-8 years. Its musky, faintly mocha-like bouquet of smoked duck, dark cherries, raspberries and redcurrants is laced with earthy notes of Puer tea and exotic spice. Long and luscious, with a plush core of mouthfilling black and red fruit, it extends long, supple and seamless down a tight-grained, drying and dusty spine that is certain to become firmer. It finishes with remarkable drive and savoury complexity. This is something very unique and special. Revisited in Feb 2025, it’s still youthful, developing slowly, and it is till not showing what it will ultimately reveal.
