Rather dull, simple and herbal, with a lifeless, cola-like bouquet of light red berry aromas backed by suggestions of leather and older, cedary oak. Lean and lacking genuine depth of fruit, its initially confectionery expression of flavour becomes more skinny and hollow as it moves towards a varnishy, disjointed finish. Not exactly what you would expect from one of AustraliaÕs most prestigious makers of cabernet.
Already showing plenty of leathery, chocolatey development, this very ripe and rather old-fashioned merlot presents an earthy, dusty aroma of plums, prunes, raisins and currants lifted by sweet vanilla and chocolate oak. It’s a ripe, smooth, rather alcoholic and earthy merlot, reminiscent of several Napa Valley labels, and finishes with firm, powdery tannin.
Sweet, dusty aromas of spicy plums and dark cherries over dusty, creamy vanilla oak, with vegetal, leathery undertones. Elegant and polished, its palate of intense dark fruit and classy sweet oak overlies a slightly modest extract of fine-grained tannins, finishing with tobaccoey, herbal complexity.
This taut fine and silky merlot does reveal some greenish edges and some slightly excessive oak influences. Its aromas of dark cherries, dried herbs and violets are slightly overshadowed by assertive cedar/vanilla oak. Slightly lacking in structure and substance, its palate is excessively reliant on its smoky new oak influences for texture and flavour.
Rustic, reductive and meaty aromas of stewed plums and cherries reveal earthy and leathery undertones. Handsomely coated with sweet cedar/vanilla oak but otherwise simple and jammy, the palate frames a moderately juicy and rustic expression of plum and cherry fruit with smooth, firmish but slightly sappy and metallic tannins.
A willowy and stylish merlot underpinned by firm, fine and slightly drying tannins. It’s laced with pristine flavours of black cherries and dark plums tightly knit with cedar/vanilla/dark chocolate oak and lightly herbal, briary undertones.
A delightfully smooth and even, early-drinking merlot with a developing colour and a bouquet whose presence of dark cherries, menthol, slightly raw vanilla oak and mint and dried herbs doesnÕt quite do justice to its pretty, juicy and sweet-fruited palate of cherries and plums. ItÕs polished, supple and charming, but is likely to fade after a few years.
A delightful little quaff, with a sweet, smoky and cedary bouquet of violets, dark cherries, plums and cassis. ItÕs fresh and youthful, plump and juicy, with a moderately long and vibrant, jujube-like palate with just a hint of currant-like overripeness and a polished measure of oak and tannin.
Early-maturing, scented with violets, dark cherries, plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak over meaty notes of raisins and currants. ItÕs smooth and smoky, with some chocolatey oak sweetness and bright forward flavours of cherries and plums, but does thin out towards a slightly baked and dehydrated finish.
Rather simple, with a modest presence of raspberries, cranberries and creamy vanilla oak backed by a hint of cherry and dried herbal notes. It’s medium weight, with some forward juicy flavour, but finishes quite sappy and lean.
