A Chianti to try if you’ve never understood the older style of the species. Deeply scented, flavoured and polished, it’s a classy expression of the region made from 90% sangiovese with 10% of canaiolo and colorino with 18 months inside French oak. Rustic, briary aromas of dark plums and cherries, dark chocolates and minerals reveal notes of mineral, roasting meats and licorice. Long, smooth and complete, it’s artfully balanced, sporting a handsome drive of sourt-edged fruit and finely integrated, drying tannins wrapped in refreshing acids. Enjoy now or later.
Very elegant, polished Mornington Peninsula chardonnay with an intense aroma of stonefruit, tropical flavours and oatmeal enhanced by well handled sweet vanilla and buttery oak plus butterscotch malolactic complexity. It’s tangy, generous and creamy, with a fluffy, even texture of pristine pineapple, succulent white peach and citrus flavour, culminating in a refreshing lemony finish.
Restrained, delicate perfume of peaches and melon, nectarines and pineapple over slightly nutty, dusty vanilla oak. Long, fine and delicate, with a babyfat middle palate revealing some alluringly pristine and penetrative fruit. It finishes soft, nutty and savoury, with a lingering note of mineral.
A smooth and generous mouthful of chardonnay whose floral and lightly minerally bouquet of citrus/melon fruit reveals undertones of green cashew, lime and a restrained measure of vanilla oak. Juicy, round and open, its fruit is underpinned by some fine phenolics and rounded by soft acids. Could perhaps have used more new oak, cut and polish.
A rather funky but also formulaic chardonnay whose aromas of pineapple, nectarine, melon and peach overlie dusty, toasty oak influences. The palate is generous and juicy, almost flabby, presenting ripe tropical and peachy fruit before an awkward, disjointed and slightly sweet finish of sappy, edgy acids.
