Pristine floral aromas of red cherries, blood plums, dark berries and blueberries integrate with cedary oak. Underpinned by a tight, drying spine of grainy tannins, its long, brightly lit palate of dark cherry/berry and plums-like flavour extends towards a shapely finish of refreshing acidity.

Backed by suggestions of mint and dried herbs, a deep, violet-like perfume of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and cherries knits tightly with new, cigarboxy oak. Long and tightly coiled, its intense layers of dark fruits extend with shape and style over a fine, drying backbone, building in power and grip towards a lingering finish of refreshing acids and fruitcake-like flavour.

    Peccavi The Estate Merlot 2017
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Perfumed and gravelly, unfolding heady layers of black cherries, dark berries and plums knit with chocolate/cedar oak and backed by a hint of dried herbs. It’s fullish to medium in weight, with a long, lustrous core of faintly sour-edged cherries, plums and berries knit with fresh new oak, overlying earthy, herbal complexity. Shapely and finely balanced, it slowly reveals fruitcake-like spice and preserved fruit. Simultaneously elegant and deeply flavoured, it’s a new dimension for Australian merlot.

    Peccavi The Estate Merlot 2018
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Australia’s finest merlot slowly unfolds a heady bouquet of cassis, dark cherries, blood plums and blueberries tightly knit with smoky chocolate/cigarbox oak and backed by a whiff of dried herbs. Sumptuous and velvet-smooth, its bright, almost amarone-like core of vivacious dark plums, cherries and mulberries extends with drive and balance down a silky fine spine of polished oak and mineral tannins towards a lingering finish of exceptional length. Proof positive that Australian merlot is better than what we have been offered to date.

Original price was: $150.00.Current price is: $127.50.

High octane merlot indeed, from Australia’s finest label of this variety. Opulent aromas of dark cherries, plumcake and fresh vanilla oak lifted by heady aromas of red flowers simply shriek their varietal purity, while the sumptuously flavoured, long and polished palate delivers a pristine, international level of merlot expression without ever exceeding a medium to full-bodied framework. Framed by a fine grade of powdery tannins that become more firm and grainy with aeration, it’s gentle and refined, finishing long and pure. Made entirely from the lastest Bordeaux selection of merlot clones.

    $150.00

Either the best or the second-best Australian merlot ever released. I’m uncertain which because I’ve given it the same score as the 2018 edition of the same wine, but haven’t tasted them together. Either way, Australian wine should celebrate that it has a merlot able to punch it out with all but the very finest from Pomerol. Deeply perfumed, with heady layers of violets, dark cherries, blueberries, mulberries and dark plums tightly knit with cedar/cigarboxy oak, it reveals nuances of musk, dark chocolate and mineral. Fullish to medium in weight and underpinned by a firm, gravelly spine, its core of faintly sour-edged fruit and meaty, briary complexity drives long and sumptuous towards a lingering, stony and savoury finish. It flaunts its varietal purity, polish and finesse. Perfectly ripened and pristine, it’s artfully balanced and ready to enjoy. Or to open anytime over the next 30 years or more.

    $150.00

A superb, firm and assertive, genuinely Bordeaux-like merlot revealing a perfect balance between fruit and structure, oak and texture. Deep aromas of dark, ripe cherries, dark plums and fresh cedary oak are lifted by scents of dark blue and black flowers, revealing notes of mineral and gravel, cigarbox and blood plum with breathing. Initially quite fine and silky, its long, smooth and polished palate delivers remarkable plushness and texture, becoming firmer with time in the glass. Driving long and complete, it’s a remarkable marriage of varietal purity and flavour, with everything in perfect place to cellar for decades.
