Yarra Valley pinot noir at its absolute pinnacle. There’s a hint of briar and sweet leather about the slightly rustic, spicy forest floor aromas of sweet red cherries, plums and raspberries, while a fragrant rose petal perfume slowly emerges from the glass. Superb in its sappy, silky texture, but packing a punch with an effortless delivery of pristine but slightly wild small berry and cherry fruit, it’s framed by the finest of tannins and the most natural of fresh acids. A masterpiece.

A sweet, spicy perfume of liqueur cherry chocolates, rose petals and briar reveals complex undertones of caramel, exotic spices and a faint meatiness. It’s sumptuous and velvet-like, offering a deep, unctuous palate steeped in dark, juicy flavours of cherries and plums, framed by smooth, fine tannins. It’s a baby of a wine, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it demanded a score upgrade once it has been longer in the bottle.

A fine, supple and willowy longer-term pinot whose delicate floral perfume of raspberries, cherries, red plums and restrained cedary oak reveals a subtle presence of undergrowth and dried herbs, cloves and nutmeg. Initially sweet and forward, with some lively cherry/berry flavour, it becomes more sappy, lean and restrained as it extends towards its fine, silky finish of lingering fruit and refreshing acidity.

Likely to age slowly in a traditional, savoury and faintly herbal style, this complete and finely balanced pinot has a delicate, sweetly perfumed scent of rose petals and red cherries, raspberries and light cedary vanilla oak that steadily opens to reveal more depth of fruit. Underpinned by a fine, powdery spine, its supple presence of cherries and berries reveals earthy, meaty suggestions of forest floor, finishing with charming balance and an Old World-like crescendo of flavour.
