Deliciously fruited, full to medium-bodied, with pungent meaty and spicy aromas of red berries blood plums, sweet vanilla and coconut ice oak backed by nuances of dried herbs. ItÕs long, luscious and ultra smooth, with plush, marginally jammy fruit underpinned by typically fine-grained regional tannins. It just lacks the precision and focus for an even higher rating.
Ethereal scents of violets, cracked pepper, cassis, mulberries and delicate cedar/mocha/coffee grounds oak, chocolate, mint and a hint of menthol precede a long, seamless and elegant palate. ItÕs medium to full-bodied, with sweet, briary flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries and dark plums evenly complemented by chocolatey oak with faint coconut/vanilla nuances, extending long and smooth over fine, silky tannins towards a fine, gentle savoury finish of brightly lit acidity.
Dusty scents of white pepper and dried herbs are lifted by ripe aromas of mulberries, cassis, blackberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak and reveal a whiff of coconut. ItÕs supple and elegant, smooth and gentle, with a luscious, if indeed jammy expression of small berry flavours, sweet oak and smoky, meaty notes underpinned by dusty, fine-grained tannins. It finishes with a soft acidity, but remains just too jammy and lacking in length for a higher rating.
Profoundly floral, spicy and incredibly youthful, with a confiture-like bouquet of raspberries, strawberries, redcurrants and blueberries knit with cedar/vanilla oak and backed by a hint of coconut ice. Medium to fullish in weight, itÕs remarkably long and elegant, with a vivacious expression of small berry flavours knit with dusty, cedary oak and a drying, faintly chalky spine. From a cooler season, thereÕs a suggestion of dried herbs and a balance that suggests genuine longevity.
A fuller, richer Mount Edelstone whose minty fragrance of violets, cassis, mulberries, dark plums and chocolatey, cedary oak reveals notes of Szechwan pepper and licorice. Sumptuously ripened, long and complete, its palate-staining presence of dark fruit, mint and licorice is classic Eden Valley, with a typically fine undercarriage of drying tannins. ItÕs already revealing some pleasing earthy and leathery development but is unquestionably set for the long term.
A heady, musky perfume of rose oil, lychees and sweet floral notes is equally alluring and spicy. Long and gentle, its pristine palate of lychee and pear-like fruit reveals orange rind-like botrytis influences. Evenly paced, itÕs finished with a refreshing but artfully balanced acidity.
A stylish, perfumed and deeply flavoured riesling whose slightly muscat-like aromas of citrus and honeysuckle precede a smooth, long and quite viscous palate that finishes with crunchy acids. Its vibrant lime juice and lemon rind flavours are neatly supported by very fine phenolics, while it finishes with a lingering core of fruit tightly punctuated by an austere cut of steely acid.
Rather dull, flat and candied aromas of apples and citrus fruits lack brightness and intensity. It is flat and oxidised, with a broad, citrusy palate with undertones of brown apple that lacks intensity and shape.
A supple, dry riesling whose lavender-like perfume of lime juice, peaches, white flowers and sherbet precedes a finely crafted, focused and savoury palate that finishes long, elegant and chalky with a persistent core of flavour and a lingering hint of chalkiness. Very appealing, especially at its price.
An elegant, gentle and chalky riesling scented with lime juice, fresh apple, peach and pear and lifted by a whiff of fresh white flowers. Long, fine and dusty, with a pleasing length of fruit underpinned by a faintly mineral, chalky backbone, itÕs wrapped in a fresh acidity, finishing with shape and brightly lit fruit.
