Penfolds Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir 2009
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Reminiscent of some Sonoma Coast pinot noir, this is one very assertive, ripe and jammy dry red whose dense presence of blackberry confiture, currants and plums is offset by chocolatey, coffee and mocha-like oak and underpinned by a hard-edged, drying astringency. ItÕs briary, ultra-ripe and marginally baked, lacking charm and freshness.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir 2011
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Supple, elegant and varietally correct, with a fragrance of red cherries, raspberries, blood plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak underpinned by dusty, spicy aromas and scents of red flowers. Medium weight, with a fine-grained, pliant backbone beneath its pleasing length of bright and juicy, if slightly jammy cherry/berry fruit, it finishes long and gentle with fresh acids. Reminiscent of the Robert Mondavi pinots of the 1980s.

Penfolds Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir 2013
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An oaky, dense and polished pinot thatÕs very Penfolds red wine in style but also suggestive of some Central Coast Californian styles. Deep aromas of dark cherries, plums and beetroot backed by very smoky, mocha oak precede a powerful but smooth, very ripe and almost raisined and currant-like palate whose meaty flavours combine with plush, smooth oak and firmish tannins.

    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A bright, lively and spicy bouquet of small berry and plum-like fruit and restrained oak reveals meaty and herbal undertones. It’s long and restrained, with a pleasing core of concentrated spicy and peppery berry flavour backed by slightly varnishy oak and framed by fine, powdery tannins. It finishes long and savoury, with a hint of meatiness and a lingering undercurrent of lightly herbal influences.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese 2006
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Savoury and astringent, this balanced and varietally correct sangiovese opens with a slightly meaty, dusty and earthy bouquet of dark plums over just a hint of tomato. Long and vibrant, its mouth-coating, textured palate of essence-like flavour is underpinned by drying, astringent tannins and finishes with lingering sour-edged fruit and a taut acidity.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese 2007
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Rich, assertive and powerfully constructed, this firm Riserva-styled sangiovese is fine, deeply ripened, drying and astringent. ItÕs heady and floral, with jujube-like scents of raspberries, raisins and liqueur chocolates with briary undertones of smoke and suede leather. Rich, earthy and meaty, itÕs powerfully structured with a fresh cut of acidity that punctuates its lingering sour-edged presence of plums and blueberries.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese 2008
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Ultra-rich, and likely to develop almost unnatural power and weight for this variety. Meaty, briary and brambly, its smoky aromas of dark plums, cherries, bitumen and beetroot overlie scents of black cherries and baked earth. Its sumptuous, palate-staining presence of sour-edged fruit knit tightly with fine, chalky tannins, finishing with genuine length and a fresh, tight acidity.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese 2009
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A spicy, moderately intense bouquet of small berries is backed by a dusty note of dried herbs. ItÕs long, lean and marginally green-edged, with a slightly angular but juicy presence of raspberries, red cherries, blackberries and red berries overlying a fine, powdery backbone. Finishing marginally sweet-sour, with fresh acids and some herbal edges, itÕs not emphatically varietal, and is perhaps slightly under and over-ripened.

    Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese 2010
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

Smooth and spicy, this polished and fine-grained red has a dusty, floral but deeply ripened bouquet of blueberries, blackberries and dark cherries slightly overawed by assertive oak. ItÕs marginally baked but long and supple, with fiery layers of red berries, blood plums and blackberries underpinned by dusty tannins, finishing with a hint of polished leather, fresh acids and a fine astringency.
