Plush and very contemporary, this opulent, fine-grained shiraz has a heady bouquet of cassis, blueberries, plums and cedar, smoky vanilla oak backed by suggestions of bacon, cloves and licorice. Sweetly fruited, itÕs long and gentle, with creamy oak smoothing out its sumptuous presence of bright, juicy small berry flavours. Underpinned by fine, polished tannin, it finishes with freshness, length and balance.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A deep, dark-fruited Barossa shiraz of remarkable intensity and freshness. Its pristine, translucently bright and deeply layered bouquet of blueberries, cassis, blackberries, dark chocolate and fresh cedar/vanilla oak is lifted by scents of violets and cassis, minerals and graphite. Surprisingly elegant given the density of its vivacious fruit and the firmness of its structure, itÕs dark and palate-staining, with a perfectly integrated spine of fine, gravelly tannins. An exemplary, long-term wine.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2011
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A fine, early-maturing RWT whose minty, slightly greenish and edgy bouquet of red black and blue berries, dark plums and faintly pine needle-like oak reveals musky undertones of dried herbs and cola. It’s full to medium-bodied, smooth and juicy, with a pretty expression of cassis, blackberries and dark plums tightly knit with fresh chocolate/mocha /vanilla oak, that steadily opens up more length and finesse with aeration. It does reveal a fractionally herbal edge at the finish, and lacks the length of the premier vintages.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2012
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Lustrous and complex, this unctuous and mouthfilling Barossa shiraz has a smoky and densely packed bouquet of briary dark plum and berry fruit, roast meats, grilled nuts and dark chocolate-like oak backed by nuances of cloves and cinnamon. ItÕs deeply and evenly ripened, smoothly unfolding luscious layers of dark northern Barossa fruit deftly wrapped in very fine, powdery tannins and driving long and elegantly towards a refreshing finish of exceptional persistence. Its excellent balance, depth and structure ensure a long-term life in the bottle.

    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An elegant, finely balanced long-term shiraz whose elegance and harmony artfully conceals its richness and depth. Vibrant aromas of pastille-like cassis, raspberries, fresh cedar/vanilla oak and licorice reveal a deep scent of red flowers. ItÕs long, smooth and supple, revealing a polished, red-fruited palate whose vibrant flavours of small berries, plums and restrained oak seamlessly knit with fine, drying tannins before culminating in a long, stylish and surprisingly refreshing finish.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2014
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A firmer and more structured, very Penfolds-like RWT whose pristine aromas of cassis, blackberries and dark plums are backed by fresh cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak and laced with suggestions of white pepper and five spice. Underpinned by a firm, drying spine of powdery tannins, itÕs long and densely packed, with a rather closed but luxuriant core of intense fruit backed by roasting tray notes. ItÕs for the long term but does open up and smooth out with plenty of aeration.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2015
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An exceptional shiraz that flaunts its length, style and balance. Wild, slightly briary and meaty aromas of black and red berries, cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak and musky spices reveal nuances of cola and chilli. ItÕs long and fine-grained, with length and drive of small, brooding black, red and blue fruits wrapped around a fine, firm and drying astringency, culminating in a slightly meaty and savoury finish. First rate, and better than then 2013 Grange.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2016
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Floral scents of pepper, spice and meaty cassis-like fruit; long and elegant, saturated with juicy dark cherry, plum and dark berry fruit over a drying, chalky firmness. ItÕs fiery and fragrant, full to medium in weight, with some meaty undertones and a licorice-like note to finish. More like a baby Grange than a typical RWT.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2017
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Handsomely oaked but willowy and stylish, this brightly lit, smooth and elegant shiraz unfolds a pristine, floral bouquet whose scents of violets, blueberries, cassis and mulberries are knit with creamy oak, fiery hints of cinnamon and herbal suggestions of mint and menthol. ThereÕs a bloody, meaty quality that knits artfully with the lavish, faintly smoky new oak on the palate, as its deep, lustrous core of fruit paces itself seamlessly down a fine, dusty spine of drying tannins, finishing with freshness, focus and length.

Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz 2019
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Perhaps more of a classic Penfolds style than RWT is used to being, this dark, powerful shiraz reveals a vibrant bouquet of pristine blackcurrants and violets knit with smoky cedar/vanilla oak and backed by suggestions of dark olives. ItÕs long and ripe, with pleasing length, drive and shape and meaty, almost raisin-like flavours of dark fruits framed by chalky tannins and backed by polished oak. Solid, if not spectacular.
