Meaty, slightly stewed aromas of dark plums, cassis, tobacco and mint are closed and brooding, rather shrouded by cedar/chocolate new oak. Firm, fleshy and well structured, the palate is more lively, with bright, if rather simple black and red berry flavours, plums, chocolate and vanilla, with hints of licorice and currants. Hasn’t great length, but a fine effort from this vintage.
Very classy, structured red of typical strength and longevity. Its bright, slightly confectionary aromas of mulberries, raspberries, plums and cassis integrate tightly with sweetly scented chocolate oak. Firm and almost sinewy, the palate of rich plum-like fruit reveals a faint suggestion of pruney, stewed fruit, but is essentially long, firm and complete, supported by sweet vanilla oak and assertive tannins.
A deep, dark and brooding wine which takes some time before its rather closed perfume of dark cherries, blackberries, violets and chocolate permeates its initial scents of brandied plums, prunes and tobacco. It gradually unfolds dark berry/cherry fruit that is at first rather hemmed in by cedar/mocha/vanilla oak and layers of astringent, drying tannin. ItÕs firm, rather blocky and very ripe, and certainly needs time to soften.
Steeped in palate-staining flavours of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and cherries, this smooth, elegant and seamless cabernet blend reveals a dusty, slightly leafy aspect. With its layers of concentrated fruit and smoky, roast walnut/chocolate oak supported by fine, grainy tannins, it finishes long and finely balanced, with a lingering impression of blueberries and dark cherries. Very stylish and measured.
Very stylish and polished, with a fragrance of small black and red berries, dark cherries, cloves and spice underpinned by suggestions of dark chocolate/vanilla oak and lifted by a scent of violets. ItÕs long and smooth, surprisingly spicy and meaty, with a generous and brightly lit presence of intense small fruits tightly wound around a fine-grained spine of supple tannins. It finishes with a lingering core of fruit, with just a hint of warmth.
Long, smooth and measured, this evenly paced but very ripe red has a sweet, oaky bouquet of mulberries, dark plums, cedar, vanilla and dark chocolate with undertones of game meats, raisins and a hint of cola. Plush and polished, itÕs marginally warm and spirity but delivers a deep, seamless expression of dark plums, berries and red cherries knit with fresh vanilla oak and firm, powdery tannins, culminating with a hint of rawness and currant-like character.
A profound, long-term cabernet blend whose pungent, deeply ripened and dark-fruited bouquet reveals minty and leathery notes of plums and cassis, briar and sweet chocolate/vanilla oak plus a hint of eucalypt. Richly flavoured, itÕs long and layered palate delivers a plush, lingering core of densely packed red cherry and blackberry flavour knit with polished oak and framed by fine, drying tannins.
Elegant and stylish, with a genuinely firm, fine-grained structure, this deeply ripened cabernet blend has a wild, faintly smoky and gamey bouquet of cassis, dark plums and red cherries handsomely knit with fresh, fine-grained cedary oak. ItÕs long and linear, with impressive strength and depth of fruit backed by faintly smoky, meaty complexity and astringent tannins. It finishes with a lingering impression of savoury oak and dried herbs, but finds a presence of genuinely bright, ripe fruit rather too evasive for a higher rating.
A chocolatey Coonawarra red whose deep bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, red berries, blood plums and coffee grounds-like oak overlies a hint of dark cherries and dried herbs. ItÕs long, supple and deeply flavoured, with an elegant, rather polished expression of intense, slightly minty fruit framed by a firm, loose-knit spine that finishes with genuine drive and persistence. ThereÕs some meaty evolution of flavour that works well with its handsome complement of oak.
