Developing well, with slightly splintery oak . Complex buttery nose of roasted hazelnuts, quince and figs with fresh creamy leesy notes. Ripe and succulent, good viscosity and length with ‘baby fat’ creaminess. Citrus peel finish with tight mineral acids.
Now developing golden tinges, a less distinctive wine with a nose of figs, peaches, dried apples and tobacco leaves. Forward, developed and a little disjoined, the palate has evolved toffee characters, some disjointed alcohol and finishes a little short.
Brilliant and complex, with fragrant peaches, melon and mango with cumquat and quince, plus big butterscotch malolactic . Ripe, fleshy and generous with excellent weight, intensity and length.
Restrained and stylish; more supple and lean. Delicate flavours of melon and ripe apples, with hints of lemon and vanilla oak. Long palate with chalky finish with cinnamon/clove oak.
Evolving, slightly oxidative and appley bouquet with assertive oak and melon/pear fruit. Big, toasty palate with excellent length of persistent fruit plus bacony, hazelnut characters.
Complex ripe peach/cashew/pear fruits with cinnamon/clove and vanilla oak. Long, succulent and juicy, finishing with fresh acids and very light grapefruit.
Typically tight, precise and integrated, this fragrant and focused long-term wine reflects the ongoing benefit of a more traditional approach at Petaluma. Its ripe peach and melon fruit has a background of warm cumquat and quince flavour, with smoky bacon and creamy leesy aromas plus a whiff of bound sulphide. It’s carefully balanced, brightly flavoured, long, lean and minerally in its lingering acidity.
A sumptuous, textured chardonnay whose complex aromas of melon, pear, apple and citrus fruit have a smoky background of bacon and butterscotch. Deep layers of lemon/melon fruit and toasty oak finish long and savoury, with lemony acids.
