One of the finest releases ever of this benchmark shiraz, with an alluring and slightly meaty fragrance of dark plums, blackberries, dark chocolate, backed by spicy and smoky undertones. Made in the traditional velvet-smooth Australian ‘burgundy’ style, it’s soft and juicy, with a deeply flavoured and layered palate whose deep, dark core of vibrant dark fruit flavours is tightly wrapped in fine, approachable tannins. Marvellously long, it finishes with freshness and acidity, with underlying hints of mineral.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2003
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Well-mannered, smooth and savoury, this rich and sumptuous shiraz delivers plenty of ripe and just very slightly baked fruit framed by typically smooth and velvet-like tannin. There’s a meaty, pungent aspect about its slightly spirity aromas of blackberries, dark plums, raspberries and prunes, while its rich, thick and smoky palate of meaty dark fruits, raisins and currants finishes savoury but surprisingly fresh and vibrant, with a lingering core of persistent flavour.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2004
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Deeply fragrant with an alluring, floral and ethereal scent of blackberry liqueur, plums, dark cherries and musky spices with minty undertones of restrained oak and sweet leather, this is an elegant, fine-grained and richly flavoured example of the Australian ÔburgundyÕ style, even though its label once contained the word ÔclaretÕ. ItÕs long and brooding, with its restrained expression of pure, pristine fruit overlying a chalky backbone of kernelly tannin. Certain to flesh out magnificently.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2005
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very fine, supple, elegant and seamless, this old-fashioned expression of the Australian ÔburgundyÕ style, is full to medium in weight, with earthy, leathery and chocolatey complexity beneath its briary expression of bright red and black fruits. Supported by fine, cherry kernel-like tannins, itÕs silky-smooth, slightly minty and meaty, finishing long and savoury with nuances of licorice, raisins and menthol.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2006
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Assertive, slightly raw-edged and blocky, this meaty and leathery, older-styled St Henri is a counterpoint to the elegance of the 2005 vintage. Scented with reserved aromas of dark plums, red berries, baked earth and subtle undertones of larger, older oak, itÕs also a fraction hot and spirity. Its immature, but rich and generous palate of slightly raisined, but deeply concentrated flavours of dark plums, blackberries and currants finishes with a firm, powdery grip and a note of spice cake.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2007
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A smooth, meaty, ripe and juicy shiraz-dominant red built around a deep, concentrated core of rather jammy, slightly baked and briary flavours of dark berries and plums. Its intense, floral and spicy bouquet opens up with aeration, delivering penetrative small berry aromas with smoky nuances of underbrush, mocha and chocolatey. Smooth and polished, its sweetly fruited palate of plush, deeply ripened fruit and restrained oak is supported by a pliant backbone of firmish tannins, finishing soft and gentle, with fresh acids.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2008
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A delicious wine, but another of the revolving door of wine styles that in recent years have been bottled under this historic label. Laced with exotic, musky, marsala-like spices, deep floral scents and pristine aromas of dark berries and plums, it’s particularly elegant Ð certainly without the density and richness usually associated with St Henri. Underpinned by a high grade of fine-grained crunchy tannin, itÕs intense, pristine and vibrant, finishing with exemplary length and balance.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2009
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Meaty and very ripe, this rather baked and raisined shiraz has a currant-like bouquet of blood plums, red berries and pan drippings. ItÕs initially sumptuous and concentrated, but despite fleshing out with aeration still lacks genuine stuffing of ripe fruit, finishing rather sinewy and drying, with lingering dried herbal influences. Not up to this labelÕs usual standard.

  • Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2010
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    $210.00

Quite possibly the finest St Henri yet released. Superbly balanced, with a deep, spicy bouquet whose dense aromas of blue, black and blood red fruits are lifted by an alluring perfume of red and blue flowers, a hint of cracked pepper and backed by suggestions of smoked meats, minerals and graphite. It’s smooth and sumptuous, with a long, velvety marriage of unctuous meaty fruit wrapped around a fine, grainy backbone and underpinned by chocolatey, faintly tarry nuances. Delivering near-perfect adherence to style, it finishes with wonderful length and harmony.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2011
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Supple and elegant, this moderately weighted, medium-term shiraz has some charming length and balance but lacks genuine intensity and richness. Its dusty, faintly leathery and herbal aromas of cassis, briar, blackberries, dark plums, cola and dried herbs precede a meaty, medium to full-bodied palate whose dark fruit flavours integrate with sweet chocolate oak, suggestions of animal hide and licorice. It finishes relatively gentle and savoury.
