Wynns Coonawarra Estate Johnson’s Block Shiraz Cabernet 2004
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very supple and stylish, this classically elegant shiraz cabernet blend has a delicate, dusty and faintly herbal bouquet of sweet red cherries, plums, mulberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak lifted by musky scents of red flowers. It’s elegant and willowy, with a sweetly oaked core of translucent, minty red fruits extending down a powdery spine of loose-knit tannins towards a long, savoury and faintly licorice-like finish of refreshing acidity. A typical 2004 vintage of effortless charm and balance.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Limited Release Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2024
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    $80.00

Bottled as part of the single vineyard release for 2025, but without the name of the vineyard (McKillop) on its label, this is a very elegant, fine and supple cabernet franc that bursts with vivacious aromas of red flowers, red and blue fruits before a long and gentle palate wrapped in a slightly edgy acidity that should settle over time. The thing about this wine is that the franc is really, really good – but cabernet franc rarely makes a balanced wine as a 100% varietal in a Bordeaux-like climate. So I can’t help wondering what it might have have happened had a splash or two of merlot been added to flesh it out and give it texture, plus some smaller oak, which it would have soaked up. That said, it’s a charming, if perhaps uncomplicated expression of this unsung grape in the Coonawarra region.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A refined, rather polished Coonawarra cabernet whose penetrative, vibrant bouquet of small red berries, cassis and fresh cedary oak is laced with the scent of dried flowers and reveals delicate, dusty notes of dried herbs and mint. Supple and elegant, with a pristine, sweetly oaked core of intense forest berry flavour supported by a subtle, tight-knit spine of powdery tannins, itÕs deftly wrapped in a refreshing acidity, finishing with a charming lightness, balance and clarity.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A measured, superbly balanced and elegant cabernet whose faintly herbal bouquet of intense cassis, mulberries, dark plums and tight-grained chocolate/cedar and smoky, walnut-like oak is lifted by a sweet perfume of violets. ItÕs very long and reserved, with a restrained, pristine but surprisingly intense presence of small berries tightly knit with fresh cedar/vanilla oak and wrapped around a supple spine of pliant, polished tannins. It finishes tightly focused and gentle, with lingering suggestions of dried herbs and a hint of menthol.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Ripe, firm old school Australian cabernet whose floral, mushroomy perfume of pastille-like cassis, dark plums and cedary oak overlies a faint earthiness. Supported by a drying, rod-like spine, it presents a ripe, firmish palate that finishes long and complete.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate Messenger Chardonnay 2024
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5
    $35.00

Ripe aromas of yellow peach, coriander, grapefruit and mineral with suggestions of creamy nougat and vanilla oak precede a forward, flavoursome and crunchy palate whose pleasing expression of flavour doesn’t extend with massive length. It finishes spotlessly clean and refreshing, with some savoury and mineral nuances.

A brilliant, sumptuous, savoury red of fabulously rich, concentrated fruit perfectly married with lashings of smoky new oak. Classic spicy, peppery shiraz, with a long, supple palate whose power and intensity almost belie its poise and elegance. A classic.

  • Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz 1996
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

There is certainly the richness of fruit to carry this powerfully constructed and concentrated shiraz. Musky, spicy ripe flavours of minty, briary blue and sour black berries are matched with smoky mocha oak, creating a plush, but firm and very fine-grained palate of great intensity and balance.
