Musky, floral and stonefruit-like white varietal scents dominate a light presence of red berries, mulberries and blueberries knit with fresh cedar/vanilla oak and backed by suggestions of cola and dried herbs. ItÕs forward and assertive but then thins out over a smoky oaky extract towards a green-edged and almost savoury finish of jangling acidity that does not connect with the rest of the wine.
A pretty, plush and easy-drinking shiraz blend made more in a typical Australian fruit-driven style. It’s generously flavoured, medium to fullish inn weight, with a bright, juicy presence of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and musky floral notes backed by a suggestion of dusty, cedary oak, a whiff of violet and a suggestion of stonefruit. It’s underpinned by a fine, drying and faintly mineral spine but needs a little more structure and core of fruit for a higher rating.
A charming, complex and alluring shiraz with the tiniest splash of viognier. Smoky, complex and alluring scents of charcuterie meats, blackberries, briar and cedary oak precede a long, meaty, smoky and savoury palate of medium weight whose enticing core of black and dark red and blue fruits is pleasingly met with creamy cedary oak and smoky, meaty complexity. It finishes long, soft and gentle. Quite a stunner and likely to build.
Varnishy, spicy and floral, with a sweet, briary bouquet of black, red and blue berries, plums and cedary oak backed by dusty spices. ItÕs lean and tight, with dried out volatility evident on the palate, but does present some charming pastille-like fruit sweetness with complex earthy and savoury aspects and meatiness.
Fiery aromas of small red and black berries and morello cherries backed by hints of Moroccan spice and roasting tray juices precede a luscious, juicy but medium-bodied palate whose lingering core of bloody red fruits and drying, gravelly tannins culminate in a long, refreshing finish.
Vivacious and perfumed, with intense dark cherry, dark plum aromas lifted by notes of blue flowers, dusty herbal notes and a hint of cedary oak. Medium in weight, itÕs long and gentle, with a vibrant core of penetrative dark fruit underpinned by pliant, dusty and gently firmish tannins that gain more structure towards the finish. Wrapped in a nervy acidity, itÕs bright and approachable, elegant and supple.
Juicy and forward, with plenty of vivacious red, blue and black berry fruit, this textural and refreshing red from Portuguese varieties offers plenty of flavour and character, if perhaps not the length required for a higher rating.
Intensely perfumed., deeply coloured and fascinating, this delicious, dark-fruited and finely textured dry red delivers bright, juicy flavours of blackberries, dark cherries and blueberries underpinned by a fine, gravelly spine. Its shape and structure are claret-like, but there’s a wildness and briary, almost meaty aspect to its fruit that makes it diverting and interesting.
