Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2012
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An immature, very elemental long-term shiraz in a modern, polished Penfolds style that remains thoroughly respectful of its history and origins. Lifted by a whiff of pepper and spice, its fragrant, almost floral bouquet of intense cassis, blackberries reveal undertones of tar and roasting game meats. ItÕs ripe but elegant, with a smooth, velvety and slightly old school presence of restrained but juicy blackberry, plum and cassis flavour extending gently over a fine, pliant and firmish spine towards a long and persistent finish.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2013
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A warmer year has produced a firmer, more linear and ÔclaretÕ like St Henri whose fiery, briary and rather baked and meaty aromas of blood plums and blackberries reveal nuances of polished leather and roasting meats. Slightly sinewy and unpolished, its searingly intense palate of bloody, sour-edged flavour just lacks the length for a higher rating. Give it time to settle down.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2014
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Traditional and lusciously fruited, with a peppery, spicy perfume of blue and red flowers, cassis, mulberries and raspberries. Densely packed, pastille-like flavours of dark berries and roasting tray-like complexity overlie a firmish spine of crunchy tannins. It finishes long, vibrant and almost savoury, with earthy, meaty nuances. It just lacks the intensity and purity for an even higher rating.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2015
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Spicy and fragrant, with a deeply ripened, earthy and meaty bouquet of dark fruits, dark flowers and cracked black pepper backed by smoky, mocha-like nuances. ItÕs pristine and stylish, medium to fullish in weight, with a soft, penetrative core of black, red and blue fruits knit with a fine, firmish spine and wrapped with a mouthwatering acidity. Vivacious and elegant, it finishes with true length and savoury qualities.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2016
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An old school shiraz that needs time to settle into shape and style. Earthy, meaty and spicy, its evolving bouquet of red fruits, raisins and currants reveals notes of cinnamon and clove. ItÕs long and briary, with deep blackberry and dark plum flavours driving over fine, firmish tannins, culminating in a mineral finish with a lingering suggestion of roasting tray juices. Forget it for at least a decade.

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2018
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An impressive enough, rather meaty and raisined shiraz whose vibrant bouquet of violets, white pepper and pastille-like cassis, blackberries and dark plums precedes a moderately long and earthy palate supported by a firm grip but wrapped in a rather discordant acidity. It delivers pleasing length but lacks the distinction of its forebears under this label.

  • Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2019

A very stylish, sumptuous and generous old school St Henri whose deep, dark aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, cassis and roasting meats are backed by suggestions of dark chocolate and licorice. Long and smooth, it’s soft and vibrant, with a plush core of flavour extending down a fine spine of pliant tannins towards a fine;y balanced and lively finish.

Rather simple, flatey and drying, with a faintly greenish bouquet and a linear palate of modest depth and juiciness. Shorter term.
