Smoother, softer and rounder than previous releases, with sweet, rather jammy and confectionary-like aromas of red and black berries, currants and plums, cedar/chocolate oak and a hint of prune. upfront and voluptuous, with generous and lingering fruit sweetness matched with creamy vanilla oak.
Rather warm and spirity for a Penfolds red, this vibrant, juicy and sweet-fruited shiraz of medium to full weight has a meaty and unusually floral aroma of mulberries, blackberries and cassis backed by nuances of black and white pepper. Supported by a fine, dusty chassis and cedar/mocha/chocolate oak, it’s long, complete and dripping with concentrated flavour.
Smoky, honeyed aromas of white peach, apple and spicy vanilla oak precede a viscous, rather dense and concentrated palate whose rich apple and peach-like fruit is handsomely backed by slightly sappy, creamy oak. It finishes with length and softness.
Toasty each, apricot and pear aromas with underlying creamy vanilla oak with suggestions of spice, butter and smokiness. It??s assertive and succulent, revealing some distinctive butterscotch malolactic influences underpinned by a chalky spine and wrapped in clean, refreshing acids.
The first Yattarna I have tasted that I really want to drink again. This is a first-rate chardonnay whose bright citrus and lemon fruit integrates seamlessly with creamy leesy, butterscotch malolactic flavours and newish matchstick French oak spiced with cloves and cinnamon. Its brightness and clarity are truly exceptional, as are the length and persistence of its minerally finish and flinty acids.
An astonishing departure from the early Yattarnas and a remarkable effort from a major wine producer. Delicate musky scents of clove and matchstick part to reveal a pure, bright core of peach, apple and pear fruit. Remarkably fine and delicate, its succulent, almost sappy texture presents a rare length of penetrative flavour and refined mineral finish. A must-try for believers and non-believers alike.
Toasty, waxy, honeyed aromas of figs, cumquat and butterscotch, with underlying bright honeydew melon and citrus fruits and a hint of lime. High-toned acids and a long, chalky palate deliver a steely mouthfeel of lemon-lime fruit and spicy, toasty oak, finishing tight and savoury. Very controlled, and does build richness on the palate.
Clinically perfect chardonnay, perhaps lacking a little soul. Its mineral fragrance suggests dried flowers, lemon blossom and dusty, spicy cloves, with nutmeg and melon fruit. Elegant, supple and seamless, its juicy, vibrant palate of pineapple, grapefruit and mango perfectly integrates with nutty vanilla oak and finishes with refreshing citrusy acids.
A very elegant, restrained, finely structured and stylish chardonnay with excellent complexity and focus. Its dusty bouquet of peaches, nectarines, grilled nuts and dried flowers is backed by smoky, matchstick-like elements. Smooth and seamless, its pristine expression of peach, lemon and melon flavour knits tightly with assertive vanilla oak before finishing very long and savoury, with taut, mineral acids. Chalky and finely structured, with complex nutty, mealy undertones.
Delicate floral and musky aromas of honeycomb, sweetcorn and lemon blossom are backed by slightly meaty undertones of bacon and grilled nuts with minerally and creamy lees-derived influences. Generous, round and oily, its savoury and mealy expression of melon and peach-like fruit, sweet vanilla oak and lightly funky undertones finishes with slightly metallic acids, revealing a green-edged thread that lies beneath the wine.
