    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Rather leafy and herbaceous, this shorter-term Bin 128 has a dusty, shaded, capsicum-like aroma lifted by leathery, plummy and meaty shiraz fruit. It’s smooth, supple and elegant, with sweet raspberry and blackberry flavours framed by leafy, sappy tannins and a reserved measure of polished cedar/vanilla oak. Honest enough, but too green for a higher rating.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2003
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A very well handled wine whose firm structure and depth of fruit just lack the sweetness, charm and length to really impress. Its spicy fragrance of restrained red and black berries and violets is backed by cedary nuances of vanilla oak, with light undertones of menthol. There’s also a note of leather than remains throughout the handsomely oaked and firmly constructed palate.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2004
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Something of a sleeper, this fine, well-integrated and structured wine presents delicate, dusty and peppery aromas of blackberries, dark plums and older oak with a distinctly meaty aspect. There’s also a background of earthiness and a briary fruit quality suggestive of brandied cherries. Smooth and polished, long and savoury, its presently rather simple palate of vibrant berry/blackcurrant/plum-like fruit is backed by a pleasingly firm undercarriage of drying tannin. It needs five years.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2006
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sweet and juicy, slightly unpolished and brambly, this rich, old-fashioned shiraz says less about its region and more about its variety. Spicy, slightly spirity and herbal aromas of cassis, blackberries and polished cedar/chocolate oak overlie some leathery, reductive influences. Rather forward and gangly, then slightly hollow, its chunky, rather unpolished palate of ripe, wild fruit flavour is framed by a firm grip of firm tannin.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2007
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Rather plush and juicy for this label, this is a rich and fruity shiraz whose plump, vibrant flavours reveal a deliciously sour edge. Scented with violets, plums, dark berries and white pepper, with undertones of earthiness and pencil shavings, its medium to full-weighted palate of plush black and dark blue fruits is supported by dusty, pliant tannin. Its meaty, savoury finish contrasts with its typically sweet Penfolds oak.

  • Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2008
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    $35.00

A ripe, firm, older-styled shiraz that lacks the genuine length for the very long term. Given some polished oak and underpinned by firm, crunchy tannins, its evolving, earthy presence of wild, jammy plum, blackberry, currant and prune-like fruit overlies meaty, gamey complexity and chocolatey, raisin-like undertones.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2009
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Charming and spicy, ready to enjoy but able to cellar, this meaty and autumnal shiraz unfolds a peppery fragrance of cassis, raspberries, musk and chocolate/mocha oak with smoky undertones. ItÕs long and tightly interwoven, with earthy fruits and artfully balanced oak supported by firmish, but pliant tannins. It finishes with genuine brightness, and lingering rustic attributes.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very stylish, polished and elegant, with a deep, floral and lightly minty perfume of blue and black berries backed by fragrant cedar/vanilla oak and earthy, leathery undertones. ItÕs very supple and restrained, with a measured depth of juicy small dark berries supported by smooth, fine and drying tannins. It finishes with charming length, freshness and brightness.

    Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2011
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Lean and faintly green-edged, this earlier-drinking shiraz has a sweetly oaked, smoky and cedary bouquet of berries and plums, cola and chocolate lifted by sweet violet-like notes. ItÕs brightly lit, forward and slightly jammy, but then rather ethereal and hollow as it moves towards a finish bound by greenish, metallic tannins.
