    Wynns Coonawarra Estate Riesling 2006
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

For several years during the 1970s and 1980s, riesling was actually the most widely planted grape variety in Coonawarra. Scary thought. People were using it to make dry white wines as well as a sparkling base. Even scarier. While not even the locals drink it without even a year’s bottle-age, every now and again, Coonawarra does spin out a eye-catching riesling that develops well in the bottle. Wynns has achieved this with its refreshing and uncomplicated 2006 release. Its fresh aromas of lime juice and green apple are lifted by a floral aspect, while its long, lean and shapely palate of apple, pear and limey fruit finishes crisp and lively. It’s underpinned by an appealing chalkiness and will develop for around five years.
