Floral, spicy and laced with red fruits, this medium-bodied pinot is fleshy, ripe and flavoursome. It’s forward and juicy on the palate, with an honest length of flavour and a fine, powdery spine. Enjoy over the next year or so.
Forward, juicy peach, melon and lemony fruit thins out and dries out a little down the palate, finishing with citrusy acidity and lacking great length. Typical of this vintage.
Ripe, juicy and fruit-driven, this vibrant chardonnay reveals faintly smoky aromas of nectarine, yellow peach, lemon and grapefruit, with creamy, faintly buttery undertones. Round and generous, its brightly lit core of stonefruit and citrus flavour is gently oaked, underpinned by a fine chalkiness and wrapped in a lively, refreshing acidity. It’s delicious and complete, with the ability to develop over the next 2-3 years.
Another pristine and varietal pinot noir from Wickham’s Road, the second label of Hoddles Creek. If you’re a regular drinker of pinot, this is the kind of wine you need on hand for those informal times you just need a hit of the grape. It’s perfumed and juicy, with a vivacious core of red cherries, raspberries and a hint of citrus oil, plus a fine backbone that gives it grip and presence.
What’s going on here? How on earth does Franco d’Anna fashion a pinot of such intensity, purity, fragrance and depth of flavour – not to mention its structure, drive and balance – for $22? I’m ordering it immediately for our Shop. There’s no way a $22 pinot can be this good; it pulls the rug out from many supposedly illustrious pinots for two or three times its price. A delicious, mouthfilling, satisfying, yong and uncomplicated pinot that gives and gives. And even more the day after if you have the patience…
A long, complete and even stylish cabernet franc whose vibrant but dusty perfume of raspberries, redcurrants and light cedary oak reveals a hint of dried herbs. Supported by a fine, gravelly spine, its vivacious palate of red and blue fruits fills the mouth before honing in towards a fresh and almost savoury finish.
An intense, profoundly fruit-driven and concentrated young chardonnay whose juicy expression of ripe melon, grapefruit lemon and apple skin offers roundness, richness and pleasing length. There’s a suggestion of oak and a refreshing acidity. For those who enjoy fruit in their chardonnay.
