Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

A beautifully elegant and structured cabernet of considerable class. Its floral perfume of sweet small black and red berries, fresh cedar//vanilla oak and undertones of dried herbs precedes a tightly focused palate of exceptional length and restrained power. Beneath its pristine expression of berry fruits and cedary oak lie nuances of dried herbs and forest floor, while its fine, superbly integrated tannins have a measured, polished quality.

Woodlands
Established in 1973, Woodlands is still enjoying a stunning renaissance that shows no signs of slackening. It has developed its own house style -  almost a prerequisite for greatness in wine -  of deeply perfumed, pristine fruit integrated with fresh, fine-grained oak and underpinned by a classically fine, chalky backbone, often revealing the kind of dusty, dried herb qualities more often seen in Bordeaux than Australian cabernet. There's again an impressively even consistency and elegance about the current releases, as well as Woodlands' typical cellaring potential. Again, it's hard to pick highlights out of a collection of highlights.
