Tapanappa Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

A very rich, profound wine with deep, layers of earthy, spicy and briary fruit. Its profound, smoky bouquet of sweet red berries, cherry kernels, raisins, figs and roast beetroot opens up slowly to reveal sweet floral notes and a hint of liqueur chocolates. ItÕs sumptuous and thickly fruited, with a lingering, sweet core of red and black cherries and berries, but is also fine and restrained, finishing dry and savoury with a tight balance and focus.

Winery

Tapanappa
Tapanappa focuses on three specific South Australian terroirs. First of these is the Tiers vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley, which is owned by Brian Croser and also provides the fruit for Petaluma’s flagship Tiers Chardonnay. Second is the Whalebone Vineyard in the heart of what is now Wrattonbully in the state’s south-east, home to a steadily improving blend between Merlot and Cabernet Franc plus a rather old-fashioned Cabernet Shiraz. The third site is perhaps the most intriguing - a pinot noir vineyard called Foggy Hill planted between 300-350 metres in altitude on a northwest facing slope at the highest point of the Fleurieu Peninsula. While quality has not been consistent, there have been some quite remarkable pinots released to date from this moist unlikely of regions.
