Levantine Hill is an extraordinary project developed by Melbourne-based property entrepreneur Elias Jreissati, which is operated by his family and co-managed by daughter Samantha. It's very much a case of the human ability to superimpose itself over a landscape, but then to respect that landscape in every detail. Occupying a spectacular Yarra Valley site, Levantine Hill produces wines of European elegance and subtlety, and its quality aspirations are frankly inspiring. The project is relatively young so the earlier releases have inevitably shown young vine issues Đ but what I like and respect is the uncompromising adherence to style Đ which is where Levantine Hill will surely succeed. Blessed with resources beyond most small Australian producers, Levantine Hill has actually already achieved what many makers fail to do Đ which is simply to understand very clearly and uncompromisingly each and every wine it wants to put into bottle.
