Leeuwin Estate Prelude Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Formerly Cabernet Merlot) 2004

Just a little unpolished and green-edged, this rather ageing, smoky and meaty cabernet has a modest presence of light red berries and plums backed by cedar/vanilla oak and a hint of leafiness. It has some elegance and suppleness, but finishes slightly sweet-sour, with a light metallic note.

Winery

Leeuwin Estate
One of the founding vineyards of the Margaret River wine region, and home to the largest privately owned Karri forest on earth, Leeuwin Estate is a signature winery with a definitive wine -Ę its Art Series Chardonnay. Since its first vintage in 1980 this label has hardly missed a beat, and could actually be the world's most consistent benchmark wine. The 2012 vintage continues with an even more finely honed and elegant expression than the 2011 release. Made from mature vineyards, the Art Series reds are steadily gaining the depth of genuinely ripe fruit and consistency the Horgan family have been seeking. The current releases of Sauvignon Blanc and the Siblings white blend are delightfully fresh and vibrant.
