Kooyong Meres Pinot Noir 2011

Earthy slightly meaty aromas of rose petals red cherries and restrained fine-grained oak with dusty herbal undertones precede a reserved medium-bodied palate of almost fragile slightly over-ripened raisined and currant-like flavour Supported by assertive powdery tannin it finishes rather drying and herbal with an excellent length of fruit and a fresh acidity

Winery

Kooyong
Kooyong is a long-established benchmark in Victorian wine which has pioneered the way in this country which an individual site -Ę in this case its 40 ha of vines on Hunts Rd in Tuerong -Ę is broken down to different subsections based on soil type, which are then matched with appropriate clones of Burgundian varieties and made as individual vineyard wines. This practice is now a commonplace amongst many top-level producers. What makes it even more effective at Kooyong is the astonishing quality and consistent differences in style between these wines -Ę one of the reasons I look forward every year to seeing how the production team has eked out various expressions of site and season. Kooyong fared exceptionally well in the warm 2013 vintage, especially for its range of individual vineyard pinot noirs.
