John Duval Entity Shiraz 2011
An early maturing Barossa shiraz without its usual fruit density sweetness and high notes but still with pleasing richness and depth Its deep dark bouquet of cassis blackberries dark plums and fragrant fine-grained cedary oak has a violet-like perfume while its smooth oaky and faintly herbal palate of medium to full weight just lacks its usual length and density finishing a little lean and sappy

John Duval
John Duval has stamped his identity onto a generously flavoured and handsomely oaked expression of Barossa wine, whose philosophy is entirely consistent across all four labels. There has even been a noticeable fining of the style from 2010 onwards, especially in 2012 but equally evident in 2013. Duval's wines are all gaining in stature over time, and the current releases are outstanding. The Eligo is more concentrated and receives a higher proportion of brand new oak, while the Entity strikes perhaps a finer balance in most seasons. The Plexus red blend is consistently smooth, juicy and charming, while the ever-improving white Plexus blend is adding a dimension to Barossa white wine.
