Hurley Vineyard Lodestone Pinot Noir 2022
$110.00
An elegant, supple pinot that will build richness and flesh out over time, still retaining its style and balance. Scents of black and red cherries, dark flowers and cedary oak are backed by notes of rosemary, dill and hints of cola. It’s medium in weight, long and evenly paced, with a supple core of fruit that moves gently down a fine, slatey spine towards a lingering savoury finish of dark fruit.

Hurley Vineyard
This specialist 3.6 ha pinot vineyard was established in 1998 around the north-eastern crest of a small sheltered hill on the Mornington Peninsula capped by volcanic, stony, red-brown earth. It has been quick to attract attention for its finely crafted, elegant and savoury wines, which now reflect the site's three sub-vineyards. Lodestone faces north, Hommage is towards the north-east, while Garamond faces due east. The big improver in Australian pinot noir over recent seasons, the Hurley Vineyard has clearly struggled with its 2013 releases for reasons entirely other than quality of viticulture or winemaking. I'm amazed and deeply impressed by the integrity shown by Kevin Bell in sending me these wines for evaluation, knowing in advance the comments they would surely receive. For me, I sincerely hope to see the Hurley Vineyard return to its more typical form with its 2014 wines.
