Dominique Portet made his name in Australia as the founding winemaker for Taltarni, just as his brother Bernard made his at the sister winery of Clos du Val in the Napa Valley. The company's quality has dramatically improved over the last five years and the house style has refined in a beautifully fruited, finely structured and deftly balanced direction for which Ben Portet deserves great credit. The Cabernet Sauvignon is entering elite territory. These are today very artful wines, and with some new winemaking tricks up his sleeve, Ben Portet might crank up the quality further still.
