As astonishing, rare and organically farmed nebbiolo from several tiny parcels of fruit grown in the hills above Priocca in Roero. Production is tiny, so be quick. It’s wild and heady, with a profound perfume of rose petals, fragrant eastern spices, red cherries and blood plums backed by notes of musk, leather and bitumen. Substantial and mouthfilling, it’s long and unctuous, presenting a fiery but velvety core of fruit underpinned by fine, gravelly tannins that finishes long and savoury with a persistent note of licorice. Dare I say it, had it come from a famous appellation, I couldn’t afford to taste it.
