Joshua Cooper
It hasn't taken long for Josh Cooper to have become a sought-after maker of chardonnay and pinot noir from a range of interesting sites in and around the cool climate Macedon Ranges region. The early releases showed that the sites had the depth of expression and character to warrant their selection in the ranger and were made with sufficient sensitivity to let their qualities shine through. Then, as is not uncommon with emerging brands from younger makers, followed some vintages of rather edgy and experimental style in terms of fermentation techniques and oak handling. This is all par for the course. The 2019 releases include a wine that tells me things are heading back onto a happy track Đ the Ray-Monde Vineyard Pinot Noir. At their best, Josh Cooper's wines are classic, medium-weight expressions of elegance and purity, with an Old World self-confidence and a carefully measured degree of winemaking input. Watch this guy.
