Steve Pannell is developing an idiosyncratic and compelling collection from McLaren Vale, Fleurieu and the Adelaide Hills that reflects his personal spin on what are currently regarded as regional favourites, plus others he considers should eventually become regional favourites. As a group, theyŐre approachable and generous; artfully conceal their true strength and structure, and typically offer something above and beyond what youŐd expect them to do. SC Pannell now has a new cellar door in the old Tapestry facility at 60 Olivers Road, McLaren Vale. I particularly admire the brilliant 2012 The Vale Shiraz Grenache blend (94/100, drink 2024-2032).
