Yabby Lake
Yabby Lake is a very high-profile Mornington Peninsula operation headed by Tom Carson. Its Single Vineyard wines are consistently stylish and finely balanced and most of the Single Block Releases have impressed me thorough, although I do take issue with the lack of fruit depth and the excessive acidity evident in the 2013 Chardonnay. Typically, these are very stylish, high quality wines only made when seasonal quality merits their separation from the rest of the make, so it's not necessarily true that one particular block will have its own release from year after year. The 2013 Block 1 Pinot Noir (90/100, drink 2021-2025), which follows a worthily well-known vintage, is rather too heavily oaked for its more modest depth of fruit.
