Parker Coonawarra Estate
Once the brainchild of John Parker, Parker Coonawarra Estate was sold by the Rathbone family to the Adelaide-based Hesketh Wines, which has until this purchase operated largely as a negociant. There's no doubting the potential of this first-class vineyard, whose wines have sadly declined over the last decade. A recent taste of the still-excellent 1998 and 1999 vintages of the Terra Rossa First Growth puts this issue beyond doubt. It's a pleasure to see the cabernet-based wines under the Terra Rossa labels heading straight back to levels of style and quality reminiscent of their previous heyday.
