Kanta
One of Germany's hottest makers of riesling, Egon Muller, has created this label for a small run of Adelaide Hills riesling he now sources from the Argyle Vineyard near Echunga, at an altitude of over 400m. It's typically perfumed and musky, mineral and textured, with a balance of sugar and acidity that varies from season to season. Incidentally, 'kanta' is a Sanskrit term for desired, beloved and beautiful, which the fruit from 2011 decidedly wasn't, so no wine was made. The 2013 release is a charming marriage of German technique with Australian raw materials.
