Sutton Grange Estate Viognier 2012
An idiosyncratic, savoury viognier whose spicy, floral fragrance of melon and tangerine, ginger and cloves has a profound mineral note. Long, lean and shapely, with a pleasing length of restrained fruit overlying a firm grip of chalky extract, it finishes with brightness and freshness.

Peter Sidwell established his vineyard on the same property as his impressive equestrian facility. All releases to date were made by Gilles Lapalus, one of the most talented French winemakers ever to work in Australia, and present a unique combination of thoroughly Australian terroir with an equally Gallic winemaking attitude. The Syrah is a powerful, superbly structured red of immense depth and longevity, while the Giove is a Super-Tuscan blend of sangiovese and shiraz, grown and made in Bendigo, by a Frenchman! It takes something quite special in a rosŽ to capture my attention, but the finely textured and savoury expression from Sutton Grange manages to do so, every year.
